hacksaw here too...

i bought a 55lber... i only cut one side...too lazy to do the other.

I drilled a hole on one side and threaded it so i can bolt on plates since it is light

Hacksaw my @$$!

I used a 9000 RPM industrial strength hand/angle grinder. 7" grinding wheel.

I got a great hand/wrist workout just holding on to the grinder. It probably weighs in at 25lbs.

Did you scarf up the hex head doing this? Or did you make a clean cut?

thanks so much for the replies guys  :D

hacksaw it is

In case you do not know this; be sure your blade teeth are facing forward

or you WILL be there all day cutting. Clamp down one side if you

have a workbench and a suitable C-clamp.

I thought it would, but acutally it wasnt bad at all. I held up the angle grinder straight up and cut off the handle right where it connects to the head. Just a smidgon remained and I grinded it down smooth.

im on half hr so far with 1/4 cut through!!

got a ways to go.....damn

Dboy, you have that that thing clamped down secure so you can

use both hands with the hacksaw? Blade teeth forward, cutting on the

push stroke? it only cuts on the push stroke. whats` up... 1/2 hr? sheeeesh :)

18 teeth per inch Bi-metal blade?

Use the whole length of the blade... no short choppy back and forth strokes

Make sure to cut both ends at once. If you cut one head off entirely before starting on the other, you are probably not getting the other off with a hack saw.

If he has one side clamped down tight he can cut each side seperately

HACKSAW and a wagon load of determination. The cut off bar was not exactly as smooth and flush to dumbbell so a little hand filing and a Dremal tool did the trick and made them slick. The best workout I got from those things was cutting out the handle as I have not played with them much. I plan to I swear!

I've cut a shitload with just a hacksaw but the last one I did was with and angle grinder and a sledgehammer.

If you get sick of using the hacksaw... after you get about 1/2 way through just beat the hell outta it with a sledge hammer. It'll break off and you won't hurt the block at all.
