rolf
I found a place close to where I live that sells bolts. I phoned them, and the concept of bolt grades was unknown to them. I found the following info on the bolts they sell on their web site. Can someone help me interpret this? What would be the equivalent of Grade 5? What would be a bit easier and tougher than it? ALLOY................ASTM......BRITISH STANDARD...UNS.......W.NR. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 600 (Inconel)........B166......3073...............N06600....2.4816 625 (Inconel)........B446......3076...............N06625....2.4856 800H (Incoloy).......B408......3076...............N08810....1.4876 400 (Monel)..........B164......3074...............N04400....2.4360 K500 (Monel).........-.........3072...............N05500....2.4375 825 (Incoloy)........B425......3076...............N08825....2.4858 C276 (Hastelloy).....B574......-..................N10276....2.4819 2205 (Duplex)........A182-F51..-..................S31803....1.4462 32760 (Super Duplex).A276......-..................S32760....1.4496 STEEL......AISI......ASTM......BRITISH STANDARD...UNS.......W.NR. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 660........-.........A453......-..................S66286....1.4980 B5.........501.......A193......-..................S50100....1.7362 B6.........410.......A193......410S21.............S41000....1.4006 B7.........4140......A193......708A42.............G41400....1.7225 B7M........4140......A193......708A42.............G41400....1.7225 B16........-.........A193......-..................K14072....1.7711 B8.........304.......A193......304S15.............S30400....1.4301 B8.........304.......A320......-..................S30400....1.4301 B8M........316.......A193......316S17.............S31600....1.4401 B8M........316.......A320......-..................S31600....1.4401 B8C........347.......A193......347S17.............S34700....1.4550 B8C........347.......A320......-..................S34700....1.4550 B8T........321.......A193......321S18.............S32100....1.4541 B8T........321.......A320......-..................S32100....1.4541 L7.........4140......A320......708A42.............G41400....1.7225 L7M........4140......A320......708A42.............G41400....1.7225 I must be insane typing all this, but I hope one of you can help me get some sense to it. Uberuce
http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-informat...rade-Chart.aspx An M6x150mm Grade 8.8 DIN931 (that's the code for a part-threaded hex bolt) is as close as I can find to a 6" grade 5. It's more threaded than the bolts you see pictured here. I can't find a company that sells them to individuals in the UK, though.
rolf
I can't find a company that sells them to individuals in the UK, though. Doesn't matter, I'm Finnish. The British Standard column must have mislead you, sorry about that. The page you linked to seems like something I could work with, thank you very much! rolf
I think finding those bolt classes will be much easier than the grades here in the metric speaking world. The only graded ones that the company sells are titanium grades. Might be a bit too early for that. L7, eh? The catalog says: "Main applications: petrochemical industry". Dare I venture a guess this is where the biker chick band L7 got their name... Rolle Edited March 2, 2005 by rolf
