GatorGrip Posted February 26, 2005 Share Posted February 26, 2005 Good Day Fellow Steel Addicts, I have recently bent 2 different brand 60d nails. (1 from Home Depot fairly shiny and 1 from Ace Hardware with slightly different head and # of lines on the shaft.) 1/4" CRS down to a length of 4 1/2 inches. 5/16" HRS down to a length of 4 inches. But I can't even kink a Grade 5 bolt 1/4" x 6" Any suggestions on what I should be doing to overcome this Grade 5? I know this is probably common sense (TRAIN HARD) but I wanted to get some feed back from those of you who has been there and done that. DAN PRAYDIS Posted February 26, 2005 Share Posted February 26, 2005 hey i got a lot of grade 2 bolts and did them for a while until they were real easy then started with grade 5s and moved to grade 8s and one day talking to hand gripper man we were trying to kink a red and we both of us kinked one that lasted 3 weeks until i was talking to franky and tried a red again and did it about a one inch kink and after that a couple more weeks i did a red you'll get it Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Maybe I have purchased some 5/16" HRS with a lower yield strength than normal I don't know. I bought a 20 foot piece of 5/16" HRS stock from Alaska Steel Company and that is all I have to compare it to. I don't have many options up here in Fairbanks, Alaska -you either buy what they have at their price or you don't get it period! I am not trying to be difficult but it was as if you were doubting the truth of my post, I ain't got much but I do have integrity. That is why I was so perplexed that I couldn't bend the Grade 5, but I have since slightly kinked it so it is not exactly straight anymore. I am on a mandatory rest period and when I get back fresh maybe I can kink it further, if it kinks much past what it is now I will crush it no doubt.
