Nathan Say
The plates I use have a kind of rough/sharp edge on them & when I do lots of pinching, they dig into that webbing at the base of my thumb. Am I allowed to use athletic tape or something on that area or would that help me grip it? I thought the only aid is supposed to be chalk, but I don't really wanto to have to wait for my hands to heal before training again.
supersqueeze
If they are your plates smooth out the sharp edge. If they are not your plates, tape up. You are training, don't worry about "rules". - Mike M.
Tou
Yeah, don't get hurt too much in training. You can use tape in training but not in competition. When I pinch for a max weight, that little skin between my thumb and my index always tear. So I pinch in blood and pain but hey, you can't pinch heavy without a little pain. You also might try to wrap a towel over the pinching surface. I recall David Horne saying that he sometimes uses a towel over the plates. It protects your skin and ... make the plates considerably tougher to lift. He's not the best for nothing !
Guest woody36
Nathan, Like Squeeze says, tape em or if it's just the edge run a metal file over the sharp bits.
