Guest Hatter
I recently received the #1 CoC gripper and am pretty close (2-3 mm maybe) to closing it. My workout right now consists of 3-4 sets of 1 partial (coming as close as I can to closing it) 3 times a week. From browsing this board I have seen strap holds recommended a lot for increasing grip strength. I am unfamiliar with these. If anybody could explain them and provide me with any additional workout tips I would appreciate it, thanks.

Guest woody36
Hatter, because you can't close the 1 you would need a trainer to perform strapholds. It would obviously be cheaper to buy a store bought gripper for this excercise but i don't know how this would compare. Pic of straphold. http://www.cyberpump.com/gallery/album03/aah
Tou
Woody is right, you need a Trainer to work strap holds. To do strap holds, you have to completely crush the gripper over a strap on which a weight is attached. Then, you hold it off the ground. Get the Trainer. It is a good warm up gripper and many of the strongest crushers still use it.
AnimalCage
If you aren't yet able to order a Trainer, and because you can't close a #1 yet, getting a store gripper may be a good idea. I always open the packages and compare them before I buy. They usually run under $5.00 for a pair. I would advise taking the foam grips off. You may be able to close it for reps, maybe high reps, but can you hold it closed while clamped on to 5-7 lbs? That is a quick and effective solution, but the Trainer is a must, IMHO. Guest danreeves
Tried strap holds for the first time last night. Warmed up on the trainer, 2X10, did 2X5 on the #1, then put a 3 lb. plate on a strap and held it with the trainer. Was BRUTAL!!!!!!!! Held it for 30 seconds the first set, then could only get 15 seconds at the most on the next three sets. Whole hand and forearm felt like they had been really worked after doing the strapholds. Definitely a grip training technique i'll stick with.
Tou
Add weight Dan. Shoot for 10 seconds maximum time. Over 10 seconds, add weight.
Guest danreeves
Will try that. Plan on doing holds again Friday, will let you know what kind of weight I end up with on the trainer. tried to do them on the #1 and got nowhere. May have been because I was shot after that hold on the trainer.
