FrankyBoy
Last weekend I watched Martin trying to bend the FBBC 5/16" x 6" bar for the Huge Bastard cert. He could get it to about 90 degrees quite fast but then he stalled in the crush down due to an off-centre kink. I remembered an older thread about this topic, searched and found it: http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?showtopic=5921 Any news of the big benders here? Eric? Can an off-centre kink be avoided or does it just happen 'naturally' from time to time?
EricMilfeld
Franky, that link you pulled up is a reference to the style of bending I no longer use - the reverse grip. Off center bends plagued me with that style. It's much less of a problem with double overhand. It can be avoided by positioning your hands as evenly as possible on the nail and applying the force equally with both hands, as opposed to using one hand more as a brace while bending with the other. EricMilfeld
I should add that being able to feel through the wrapping for the ends of the nail is crucial to finding an even grip.
foggymountainmuscle
I bend reverse style and off center bends are the nature of the beast. I find often that to get them centered, I have to bend at a point that feels off center to me. Lots of times though it's hit or miss. HAMMERHEAD
Mark the center with a marker or a paint pen. -HH
FrankyBoy
Thats a great idea. I always try fo 'feel' where the nails sits in my palm. With the two pads I'm (or Martin is) using the marker should help to avoid an off-centre bend due to a wrong placement of the nail.
