do grippers train your thumb?

I was lead to believe that coc type grippers DID NOT recruit the thumb when used.

Is this so?

The reason i ask is that my thumbs feel extreamly sore and worked as hard as a demanding pinch grip session!

Is it just me (as i have small 'thumb pads' ) or do other people find this as well?

I have not yet experienced a sore thumb when using the grippers.  This may be due to a difference in technique though, if you hold the gripper at the joint where your thumb comes into the hand, then I can see how it would get sore.  Experiment around and see what happens.

thats interesting 'cos thats where it does sit when i close the grippers, right along the base of the thumb.

I havent got very big hands and so cant effectivley possition it elsewhere

thanks for shedding a bit of light onto the mystery :)
