Chez vs The MM8: Whatever it takes

Chez

Recommended Posts

I would like to climb the ladder, but first things first, I want enough power to CCS my #3. From there on I want to explore further things in grip, I'm going to buy a 60mm rolling handle first, focus more on open hand strength...build a better base. From there on I want to climb the MM ladder. no hurry.

I'm affraid that when I focus now on open hand strength, it will kill my gripperwork. From here on we've got to work with a plan. I'm not a natural so hard work is ahead of me hahaha

Same workout format as last time as I try to stay fresh but not over train. I just used harder TSG for the working sets.

Right hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 MMS reps

COC #2 = 3 MMS reps

Working Sets

1) COC #3.5 = Past parallel with a relatively wide starting set. This gripper is brand new and not seasoned. Its a beast. Its going to be a lot of fun busting my butt to get this thing closed.

2) COC #3.5 = Past parallel again and a little closer than last time. Every mm counts when your working with a goal gripper

3) COC #3.5 = Past parallel and same as last attempt.

COC #2 = 10 CCS reps done as fast and explosive as possible.

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 MMS reps

COC #2 = 1 MMS rep

Working Sets

1) RB240 = Very close MMS attempt but just missed.

2) RB240 = I think I may have got it this time but it was hard to tell.

3) RB240 = So freaking close.

COC #1 = 10 CCS reps done as fast and explosive as possible.

Note - That #3.5 is a monster and is really motivating me right now. My hats off to the guys who have certed on it and the ones who can close it MMS. Once I attempt the MM1, my workout volume will increase to what I normally do.

Thanks Rich. I saw your training with the V2. great stuff. I'm going to ramp up my training and do the full PK workout tomorrow.

thanks man, its hard to say because I have taking to easy to get ready for it and drank like 3 cups of coffee before the attempt so I was at max strength. I would say a little harder than my #3 but easier than my MM1 replica if I had to guess.

I was bored and wanted to procrastinate reading for class so I picked up my ironmind bag of nails that I bought a couple years back. I bent 2 green nails for a warm up double over hand style and then bent a yellow nail double overhand. I haven't tried a yellow nail in a couple years but it went pretty easy. I have very little bending experience and I'm sure my technique sucks. I'm just muscling my way through it. I'm going to try and get better at bending.

my hands are recovering faster so I decided to squeeze in another torsion spring gripper workout:

Right Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 NS reps

COC #2 = 3 NS reps

Working Sets

MMS attempts:

1) COC #3.5 = One tough gripper. Got it past parallel. About the same as last time.

2) GNC 300 = Good MMS close

3) GNC 300 = Just missed with a wider set. I want to be able to NS close this down the line.

4) GNC 250 = Good MMS rep

Strapholds with a 3lb weight plate:

1) GNC 250 = Held as long as possible

2) GNC 200 = Held as long as possible 2 times

Continuous CCS reps (after setting the gripper for the first rep, I didn't reset)

1) COC #2 = 8 CCS reps

2) COC #2 = 5 CCS reps, failed on the 6th

3) COC #2 = 5 CCS reps

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 NS reps

Working Sets

MMS attempts:

1) RB240 = Good close, New PR on TSG for the left

2) RB240 = Another good close

3) RB240 = Good close again

Coin holds (used a dime)

1) GNC 200 = Held as long as possible

2) COC #2 = Held as long as possible 2 times

Continuous CCS reps (after setting the gripper for the first rep, I didn't reset)

1) BBM 5/8 inch = 4 CCS reps, failed on 5th

2) BBM 5/8 inch = 4 CCS reps

3) BBM 5/8 inch = 3 CCS reps

Note = The strapholds and coin holds are brutal. Going to try another yellow nail tonight.

That just means you're due for a good training session. Get pumped man. I wanna see a #3 CCS close Wednesday. This is turning into a war between me and that gripper.

Yup! Going to train tonight, but, I shall resist, no grip! Wednesday will be the first session. And you're right, It's personal now. hahaha

I don't believe that grip suffers from doing no griptraining for 4 days, I think it should be healthy from time to time.

Had some high and lows in training today, but overall I'm happy.

Right Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 CCS reps

COC #2 = 3 CCS reps

Working

1) COC #3 CCS attempt = :( same as last time, that little bit is killing me

2) COC #3 CCS attempt = Same result. I heard members in the board talk about micro reps.Basically tiny reps which keep the tension on your hand and this makes sense. I use to do the same thing with body building. By not locking out in weight lifting, the stress stays on the muscle. Deciding to use this technique for the next couple of weeks.

3) Vulcan V2 Level 13 = good close. I was going to use the Vulcan but decided to focus on TSG to get the job done with the #3

4) GNC 300 = Good MMS close

5) GNC 300 = Good MMS close plus 2 extra micro reps

6) GNC 300 = Good MMS close plus 1 extra micro rep. This is the best I have dominated the GNC 300. 2 members on the board RGC theirs at 168 and 169. Even if mine is 5 lbs less, I would be really happy.

7) BBGM = Good MMS close plus 1 extra micro rep

8) RB 240 = Good MMS plus 5 extra micro reps

9) RB 240 = Good MMS plus 5 extra micro reps

10) COC #2.5 = Good MMS plus 4 micro reps

11) COC #2.5 = Good MMS plus 4 micro reps

12) COC #2.5 = Good MMS plus 4 micro reps

13) COC #2.5 = Good MMS plus 2 micro reps

14) GNC 200 = 5 NS reps

15) GNC 200 = 4 NS reps

16) GNC 200 = 3 NS reps

17) GNC 200 = 3 NS reps

18) GNC 200 = 3 NS reps

19) COC #2 = 4 CCS reps

20) COC #2 = 4 CCS reps

21) COC #2 = 3 CCS reps

22) COC #2 = 2 CCS reps

23) COC #2 = 1 CCS rep, my skin is beat up now.

Left Hand

Warm up

COC #1 = 10 NS reps

Working

1) RB 240 = 1 MMS rep

2) RB 240 = failed MMS rep

3) COC #2.5 = 1 MMS rep

4) COC #2.5 = 1 MMS rep

5) COC #2.5 = 1 MMS rep

6) GNC 200 = 2 NS rep

7) COC #2 = Good MMS plus 5 micro reps

8) COC #2 = Good MMS plus 5 micro reps

9) COC #2 = Good MMS plus 4 micro reps

10) COC #2 = Good MMS plus 4 micro reps

11) BBM 5/8 = 4 CCS reps

12) BBM 5/8 = 3 CCS reps

13) BBM 5/8 = 3 CCS reps

14) BBM 5/8 = 3 CCS reps

15) BBM 5/8 = 4 CCS reps

16) COC #1 = 20 NS rep

17) BBM 5/8 = 2 NS reps

18) BBM 5/8 = 1 NS rep

19) BBM 5/8 = 1 NS rep

20) COC #1 = 15 NS reps

Note - I will post the failed #3 CCS attempt later today. Since I have been dominating the GNC 300, I signed up for the MM2 so stay tuned for that.

Keep it up bro, I also posted some vids as promised, missed it also, the first attempt beeing the best but it wasn't recorded...grrrr but it was a miss still.

Also tried after a few CCS#3 attempt my MM2 replica. Gap is getting smaller. I'll attempt that one fresh next time.

We'll get it man.

Here's One of today's #3 CCS attempts. I think I was closest at 1:29. I have 8 inch hands but the CCS set is so wide I have to readjust midway through the attempt. I played around with windows movie editor. Trying to get better at editing my movies.

Nice attempt! I noticed the same thing when I'm CCSing harder grippers. I've been working on developing a technique like I've seen Paul Knight and Gabriel Sum use where they keep the pinkie straight until they close the gripper enough to wrap the pinkie. It's tough to retrain for it but I've no doubt it'll help because otherwise just the tip of my pinkie is on the handle and it causes me to leave a lot of closing power on the table.

Good point Russ. I'm going to have to practice that because its really awkward trying to re-wrap the pinky midway through. Maybe I will do some pinky and ring finger work with my IMTUGs

Wouldn't reversed gripper work do any good in this perspective? So, closing it upsidedown. Maybe that can work. You know, I´ve been here before, trying to solve the problem, figuring a new method out, do that for a few weeks and quit to soon with that method to see if it works. I think I´m staying more on the road I´m doing right now...but indeed, the ringvinger and pinky should give just that push to pull the #3

over the edge....

I actually haven't done much inverted gripper work in the past but it makes sense. I'm going to incorporate it in my workouts. I love trying new training methods. I think it helps build more well rounded strength. Thanks for the suggestion Geralt. I will do anything to get that last little bit closed.
