Guest Bullitt
Fairly new to the board. Just moved up from HG 250 to a CofC #2.5. Came in the mail yesterday and was able to squeeze out 3 reps this morning with strong hand. Very psyched. Goals: - Get my weak hand stronger - Certified on #3 before the end of summer. - Get through the middle grip gauntlet within the next year - Get through the heavy grip gauntlet within the next two years. Workout: Mon/Wed/Fri: Gripper work. One day a week I do deadlifts with rotating handle. I also work heavy kettlebells, tons of pull-up variations, weighted dips, squats, deadlifts, bench 3 - 4 days per week. Stats: 6'3" 236Lbs Ripped the Baltimore metro phone book (dang thick ) among others. CofC 2.5: 3X strong HG250: 24X strong 4X weak HG200: 51X strong 30X weak
Guest Bullitt
Had a good grip workout this morning. Lots of low rep stuff. Some static holds and a couple negatives with the CofC 2.5 (used my HG250 for my weak hand). Then repped out with the HG200 in both hands for some high volume. My forearms are fried. May wait until Tuesday or Wednesday to hit them again. Also turned my 20 LB kettlebell upside down and palmed that for time. This weekend: bench, clean and press, deads, Zercher squats. Mike P.S. the one stat I didn't include above: Age: 41 (sadly) Edited March 13, 2009 by Bullitt

Guest Bullitt
Dissapointed. Had trouble closing 2.5 this morning. Went ahead and did my normal gripper workout, however, I'm going to wait until Thursday or Friday to hit them again. I think between the plate pinching, stone lifting, deadlifts, etc. I may be overtraining my grip. Going to take 3 days off and see how that works Gripper workout: Warm up. Did low rep work: 3X3s (close to closing but not quite). static holds and a very slow negative (2.5 for right hand, HG 250 for left) 3 finger closes 2 finger closes inverted closes repped out on HG 200 to torch them at end of workout. 25 each hand. Guest Bullitt
Note to self: Give yourself a day's rest after blackjack before trying any pressing movements. After work yesterday, I hit shoulders: Overhead Barbell Presses: 5X6 Upright Rows: 2X5,5,5 (1st 5 with wide grip, 2nd 5 slide to medium grip, 3rd 5 with hands touching in middle of barbell - no rest between) Lateral raises: 1 Drop set X 8,8,8 (two drops) Taking today off to recouperate. Normally i would do my grip work today, but my forearms need a break, so I will hit grip tomorrow or Friday.

It's about 100 yards long. walked up then down jogged up, walked down sprinted up, walked down Did long stride, bodyweight lunges as deep as i could go, all the way up. Guest Bullitt
Quick high rep, one set gripper workout today. Strong hand: HG250: 23 reps Weak hand: HG200: 38 reps (new PR) Stopped there because I felt a tinge in the forearms. They were a little fried from the phone book tear last night. I need to tear more often. Much harder when you are out of practice. Edit: My buddy emailed to tell me he tied my strong hand HG200 PR of 51, so I took a shot and hit 54 (new PR). That hurt. Did another set with weak hand just to keep things even. 36 for that one. No more gripping for a few days. High volume sucks! Blackdog
Just moved up from HG 250 to a CofC #2.5. Came in the mail yesterday and was able to squeeze out 3 reps this morning with strong hand. Guest Bullitt
The 2.5 was much tougher than I thought. You can get there though. I'm rooting for you. Did some grip work this afternoon: triples with 2.5 for strong hand and HG250 for weak. Then did 30 second holds with my fat rock block ( both hands) Then palmed my 20 lb kettlebell both hands for time. Did some 8lb sledge holds to face. With the reverse curls today, my forearms are fried. lol Until tomorrow...
Guest Bullitt
Could not close 2.5 tonight. I know I have been overtraining, but I still was bummed. I'm either getting weaker, or it's getting harder. lol I'm going with the former. No gripping tomorrow. If i post any grip work, I want everyone to yell at me. Real bummer when you go from 3 closes to not even one.
Guest Bullitt
OK, yell away. But closed 2.5 3 times this morning. Couldn't end on a miss.
egg_uk
ive tried the blackjack routine before, i read about when chuck liddel was still ufc champion, he used to do that workout twice, without a rest then some running and chin ups as a warm up before sparring, i think. are you going to cut down the rest between sets, i tried it with no rest and it was murder, didnt finish it.
Guest Bullitt
I tried without rest but couldn't get through it. Not sure if i could get through it without resting since i am adding weight to the squats hold a plate in each hand - 70lbs total last week). Instead of cutting down the rest period, I have been adding weight each week to the squat portion. Might try it with no rest and no weight. Although that is more cardio than I like. lol This is my main leg workout because i can't do back squats since my disk surgery, so I'm more interested in moving the weight up than shortening the rest period. Plus I weigh 240, so I'm movin just a bit. I thought about just doing 11 sets of 10 pushups and 10 squats with no rest. That would be easier than the blackjack format I think. I'm set to do it again on Wednesday with 90Lbs on the squats. I'll let you know how it goes. Tonight will be Back and shoulders.
