Man that sucks, try to keep your spirits up. Glad the back is making progress already.

Thanks for the support, guys. I already got my ticket so it's too late to back out now...

Been getting ART every other day, lol. Erector held up just fine today.

Yoke:

55ft down, re-pick, 55ft back

190, 370, 560, 750

950 (distance PR)

Hold:

1050 x 45sec

back to runs

2 x 55ft x 650 + 250 sled tied to belt

700 x 250 x 55ft

700 x 55ft

I've never done the yoke with sled attached to belt before. Not sure how beneficial it was -- I would like to see someone else do this so I could watch their technique to objectively evaluate the benefit.

Rope Hang:

cluster

30sec / 22sec/ 8sec (30sec rest)

Was running short on time so did this just to get something in.

20-30 throws of WOB today -- cleared 14.5ft (PR)

Car push 1/4 mile (didn't have to take a break for calves, win)

Then, I came home and saw this email about event changes:

The events:
1. truck pull arm over arm (Friday evening)
2. log lift for reps 140kg
3. Conan circle
4. car deadlift 350kg,
5. Atlas tsone, lift up the shoulder amrap, 140kg,
6. Iceland cross carry, for maximum distance, 150kg

Seems kinda redundant, very bicep intensive, and a lot of conditioning...

I have one-week to get ready for this: 4 out of the 6 events are new

It sucks they changed events, but at least they're not all bad changes for you. You've dominated Conan's wheel in the past, and you've done well with stone shouldering. The taller guys probably wouldn't have ever even practiced it. And we've all seen your log clean and press for reps.

The cross carry sounds light. Usually shield carries are 180kg. Must be awkward?

Thor is 6'10", so you can imagine how big this thing is:

http://www.ironmind.com/ironmind/opencms/Articles/2012/Jun/Hafthor_Julius_Bjornsson_Wins_Strongest_Man_in_Iceland.html

Everyone's in the same boat -- I just hope I'm in good enough shape for all the reps and distance.

Matt- I liked the Google image search of ants carrying stuff too.

Mike- I'm sure Spider Strength wouldn't mind getting you a Go Pro or something.

Yeah, I'm worried about getting my hands around it. ugh

I'll see about getting a camera. My dad is coming along so maybe he can take some footage, incognito.

This week did some speed deads, BTN pressing, and few sets of arm-over-arm with a real set-up that should be similiar to what I'll see next weekend -- my grip from a 2" rope is toast.

Kelly- I was reffering to the width, not length.

This weekend was good for my confidence, at least to get some of the events in once.

Log Press:

out of rack

speed

280 x 3

295 x 3

2 x 3 x 310

2 x 3 x 335

350 x 3

400 x 1

all easy and fast

Hold:

500 x 10-15sec

Conan's Wheel:

1 rev = 90ft

6 plates x 1

8 plates x 1

10 plates x 1

12 plates x 1

14 plates x 1

16 plates x 1

18 plates x 1/2

10 plates x 2

Arm-over-arm:

40ft pulls with sled

480

635

870

480

Stone Shoulder:

bunch of singles with 225 and 300

300 x 3 in 12sec

fairly easy. Just wanted to get technique in without much excertion.

Back is still a little tender but everything is holding a lot better overall.

Arm over Arm Truck Pull:

I think I made it around 15 out of 20 meters. 2nd to last on this event. Grip gave out and I was super pumped and form wasn't great, just like training. I really have to put in some serious time and effort into training these events I'm not accustomed to. Not good.

Log Clean and Press:

310 x 9 in 60sec

First 6 were one-motion done in less than 30 sec. Didn't have the conditioning to get 10 but still won the event. Not bad for not training it at all in years, but this isn't far off a PR I set back in 2009, lol.

Conan's Wheel:

Just over 2.5 laps, good enough for 3rd place. Winner got a step over 3 laps. Went all out but still feel I should have won this event. Probably a PR for distance even though I don't know the weight.

Stone to Shoulder:

They had Spider Tack logo sprayed on the stone, very cool!

7 reps with 320. Finished 3rd. However, the two guys were went after me and got 8 and 9 reps respectively, bounced the stone off the rubber matting and caught it in their lap, so they only had to do the 2nd half of the lift. Never seen that before.

Car Deadlift:

no suit

8 reps with front end of small European car, with plates stacked on the floor of the front, and 4 women sitting inside. Pretty heavy, maybe around 400kg, with a pick around 15". Not sure of placing but Eddie got 15 reps and is a near 1000lb puller.

Cross Carry:

Not sure my placing but took it 20 meters. It was like bear hugging two kegs stacked on top of each other. I thought they were very clear on the rules before we started but then somehow were not recognized with a couple competitors who went after me and won the event. Kind of pissed off about this, but it is what it is.

Finished 4th overall behind Eddie Hall, again. Great experience in Budapest and very thankful to have the opportunity.

You did awesome considering they gave you the events on such short notice, and you had some great finishes (and no injuries)! I hope you have some time to rest and recoup while you're on vacation! :)

To add to this, you also battled back from some injuries and still managed to set a couple PRs. Great job!

Thank you, Matt and Kelly! I going to take some time and make sure my back is healthy so I can train the way I want and not be in pain all the time. If I can get that right, then I should be able to make more substaintial gains in the coming year.

Kelly- I've been aware of that warning for a few years -- I make sure and never take that stuff, not good. The arm is doing better. While in Hungary, I was looking for topical bromine solution but ended up with Betadine, which is fine.

Good to hear about the arm. I remember we talked about that a loonnng time ago. Do you try to avoid any antibiotics? Or just the ones on the list?
