It was a fantastic idea, I found the whole thing quite motivating. I'm quite happy with my results as I was doing no direct training for the events other then gripper training. The barbell hold was at my absolute limit and a new pr by a ton my previous best with the double overhand was 315lbs! I was also able to find a form with the barbell wrist curl that felt ok so I hope to add these to my regular training.

Is anyone else disappointed by the turnout? 10 members and 1 guest out of how many that post here on a regular basis? I'd like to hear why some chose not to participate, and maybe open up the comp a little more next time.

Lack of equipment :(

I have grippers, straps, standard plates, Inch loadable handles, hex-style blobs, wrist rollers, bricks, sledgehammers, and some other stuff… but I don't have olympic plates or an olympic bar…

I did not compete to save myself the embarrasment.

I can only close a # 1 for a couple of reps.

That shouldn't keep you from competing. Enter the contest... compete against yourself and watch your PB's go through the roof :rock

And a big Thank You to Eric Milfeld for the great idea and hard work to make this contest happen ! :bow ( If it wasn't for this contest... the only grip training I would do is grippers. :blush )

Btw... What events will the next "Grip Board Grip Bash" include... I'm all ready eager to start training :yikes

Thursday was not the best day for me. I can't get to the gym on Thursdays and don't have any way to do the barbell hold at home other than to do a full deadlift off the floor, which would have lowered my numbers considerably (not that I'm a bad deadlifter, but I can hold a lot more). Sounds like everyone had a great time doing this and I think I will next time.

i thought it was a great idea by eric...it looks like everyone was honest and personally, my training partner and i had a bit of fun competing with one another on a pre-determined set of lifts...it, it was fun to go and test out maxes on some lifts i don't typically do (barbell hold, wrist curl, high rep grippers)

I do think that it was a great idea and it sounds like you guys enjoyed yourselves. I didn't participate because my primary focus is on strongman this year.

I appreciate your appreciation, guys. Yes, despite the small turnout, I agree that it was a success, as well as a whole bunch of motivational fun. I'd like to try and make the events even more uniform for the next one on August 1st, even if we have to maybe purchase a few items to make it possible. Any ideas? We'll have to put our ideas to a vote. Hey, top five finishers, don't forget to e-mail your mailing address and your name as you wish it to appear on your certificate.

Alan is right 10 competitors is a bit POOH realy.As for me ,why didn,t i compete in the comp,no excuses grip equipment wise,just plain and simple LAZINESS with a capital "L" on my behalf.

Congrats to all for doing your best and helping to get things off the ground,i am shure you all had a great day.

Eric well done on the organisation of this comp,any chance of the next one ,not being 1st week of August as the British Grip Champs are on the 2nd and 3rd AUgust.

2 weeks either side of 2nd August would be better for me :D

I was planning on entering but couldn't make it to a gym on thursday due to school and work keeping me occupied from 7am-11pm that day. I'll have a go at the events next wednesday just for shits and giggles. Good idea though, and congrats to the top fellas.

Sure, heck, we could make an exception and choose a date around that time that would accomodate everyone.

Jeff, for future referece, let me know if there's a scheduling conflict with the date. We could have snuck you in on perhaps the day before the contest, if nothing else. :D

This contest only had the open class about ten days before it actually happened. If not for the hercules hold I would still have competed, but I wanted to be fresh. Didn;t much matter I didn't do what I wanted to on it anyways.

How about settings 2 possible days for the contest like a Friday and Saturday and letting the contestants choose which of the two they wish to do their lifts. Or for that matter just give everyone a 2 day window to do their lifts. That would probably eliminate most scheduling conflicts people would have with competing. I'm new around here and didn't have the contest planned into my schedule so I didn't do this one but would like to enter the next of you hold.

First, I must say that I had an incredible time. I even got my weight-lifting brother to try it with me, which was a blast. That's a level we've never really bonded on. As you can see, I smoked him in the grippers, but he toasted me in the non-grip lifts. Hopefully, next time we have more weight available. I know for certain I can hold more than 300. I was concerned about my lower back, but all seems fine.

Also, thanks all for being honest with your reasons for not competing. I think we could work with the time reason. I also like Incindium's idea, but maybe we could expand it? How about take an entire week, giving competitors time to go back and try again if they want to improve on a lift, or giving others enough time to get to a gym to do their lifts. Let's do our best to make it a "no-excuses" competition.

And, if some are feeling lazy :whistel , it will give us time to encourage them :D

I agree with Animalcage a week blocked in for the contest would certainly help scheduling problems. It's funny, as that Thursday turned out to be a very hectic day for me so I barely got the deed done myself!

I was bummed that I couldn't compete, but I was still on the rebound from a forced layoff due to surgery a while back. Was working my way back in low and slow. Next time I will compete for sure. Great idea and execution though. Congrats to all the competitors. Lots of PRs hit on that day. Good stuff.
