All,

Apologies for the delay. . .was quite busy yesterday working on the grip comp write up (a PDF file which is almost done).

Final points and placings:

Name RT points Euro Pinch LGC V-bar Total Place

DANIELLE 100.0 100.0 100.0 300.00 1st

DAVE 100.0 100.0 100.0 300.00 1st
HARLEY 74.28 91.67 76.58 242.53 2nd
AARON 74.28 83.33 66.67 224.27 3rd
JAMES 80.00 58.33 80.18 218.51 4th
ROBERT 65.71 66.67 72.97 205.35 5th
IVAN 71.42 66.67 66.67 204.76 6th
TOM 67.14 58.33 54.05 179.52 7th
ANTHONY 62.86 33.33 62.16 158.35 8th

Please note: Points and standings were determined on the basis of weight lifted and EXCLUDE the weight of the implements. If you include the implement weights in the totals (as per below) slight differences in the points become evident in RT & v-bar. Unfortunately the point differences really blow out for the pinch when you add the implement weight in . . .and yes - had this have been done prior to calculating points the final standings would have been slightly different.

This was entirely my fault as I cleared the scoring process with the scorekeeper but failed to review the results prior to the announcement of the placings. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. . .next time I’ll get it right. My apologies to everyone (James)affected by this.

ANTHONY 60.5 55.5 116.0 48mm 40.977 86.535 89.035 175.57

For the record these weights include the following implement weights:

RT – 3.000 kgs

Pinch - 20.977 kgs (48mm width)

Pinch - 22.582 kgs (58mm width)

V-bar – 1.535 kgs

Write up to come.

Probably worth pointing out that James, Harley, & Aaron competed in a 4-event Strongman comp just BEFORE the grip comp :blink

That is impressive.

Don't feel bad about the scoring. Scoring a competition is not the easiest thing in the world to do.

Cheers David. :)

James is emailing me all the full names of the guys and I'll forward those details on to you. I'd prefer to use my middle name 'Titania' rather than Danniielle because not many know me by my first name.

I learnt one big lesson from this comp.....Don't take the warnings about v-bar underhand grip lightly....I ended up with a torn bicep tendon!! Ouch!

Titania,

Sorry to hear of your bicep injury - hope it heals quickly.

No problem regarding the name, I will sort this when I get the names.

Titania's RT lifts are world records, aren't they? Big congrats :rock

Very nice writeup and photos. GREAT V-Bar lift too. Anyone who hits 150kg is :rock .

Hope Titania's arm will heal. It doesn't need surgery does it? Her RT was very impressive.

As it states in the write up, no. Not a new handle.

It is a great lift, though. Well done to all competitors.

Cheers guys :)

My arm is healing very quickly. I actually tore both forearm extensors slightly with my underhand grip on the v-bar lifts and these are almost back to normal. My left bicep tendon (partial tear near the radius insertion) was the worst part though but even that is healing quickly.

Lesson learned was that I will NOT be using underhand grip on the v-bar any longer!!!! Also, this was literally the third time I had ever done that lift so I am far from having ideal technique on it.

A couple of weeks ago, I had my gym bag stolen from my car and along with it, my Rolling Thunder handle. Fortunately though, I have a supporter who has bought me a new one and I just tried my first lift involving my right arm since my injury last weekend.

I managed 69.5 kgs with this new handle and with my arm still not 100 percent so I am feeling pretty confident of getting an official world record on this in my next comp :)

Glad to hear you are recovering quickly.

It sounded very bad indeed.

Now go and get the WR!

  • 1 month later...

Any heavy one hand lift (such as vbar lift) is potentially harmful to the biceps tendons if one has not practised it over a longer period starting with light weights. The rotation in vbar lifting adds to this risk. Both cases of tendon damage in vbar lifting that we have learned about have involved competitors (in both cases presumably with great biceps strength) with very limited experience of the lift. A bit like breaking your arm while arm wrestling as a novice.

Hopefully your arm will fully recover.
