terminal
Hi Everyone, It seems about time that I started thinking about building or acquiring a crossbar for judgment of height for lifts. If anyone has any suggestions for good designs or if there are good resources available out there already please let me know. I am not very good with making things so simple would be good. Thanks. wobbler
I haven't done it, but a quick and easy way would be to hang a flexible measuring tape to where it comes off the ground at the required height. So for a 10" lift, tape or magnet it on so 10" mark is at the bottom of the weights.
terminal
@wobbler Thanks I will consider that, at least for the short term.
Andrew Dube
Here is the comp platform and crossbar setup I just made for us to use for the cross Canada grip contest. I had a nice talk with @Andrew P about the history of the crossbar. He joked that he should write an article about it. I would be interested in reading it as I'm sure others here would.
JHenze646
For practice lifts I stretch a band between the uprights of my squat rack.
Shoggoth
A couple banana boxes and a length of 1/4" cold roll seem to help a guy into world record territory a la Dan Fleming.
jpav2010
For a simple and more "permanent" cross bar you can easily build one with the following equipment. 2 ea. metal flange 1/2" 2 ea. 1/2" x 2' metal pipe 2 ea. u-bolts 1 ea. metal cross bar Screw the pipes into the flanges. Screw a u-bolt onto each pipe at the appropriate height. Standard weight plates are used to stabilize it. Or you could screw the flanges onto a piece, or pieces, of wood.
