blueviper42
I had a chance to randomly meet some guy that I found out is Russian. I start talking to him about Russia some, and eventually I thought I'd take a shot in the dark and ask about armwrestling in Russia. I've always been a bit skeptical of the claims of how big it really is over there. Anyway, he immediately knew what I was talking about and said it is regularly televised on TV. I asked him about Alexey Voevoda and he also immediately knew who he was and said he is quite famous in Russia. I was really surprised to hear this, and he said that armwrestling is a pretty big sport in Russia and that most of the athletes are fairly well known. Apparently the Russian women's team is famous for being very good as well. He also said that any Russian athlete that gets a gold in the winter olympics receives 20,000 euro from the government. No wonder Russian armwrestlers are so good, if some random guy from Russia knew about Alexey Voevoda and the Russian women's team, I can only imagine the type of support that they receive. Florian Kellersmann
Interesting is, that in some countries you also get pretty good money if you win a WAF gold medal.
