Lifting a 616 lb yo-yo

Does anyone live near the Lowenbrau in

Munich? If so more details about the huge

object located there would be appreciated.

It weighs 616 lbs, has a single handle on top,

and the lifter stands above it to deadlift it

as it passes measuring marks.

Paul Anderson got a rep with it. Chuck Vinci

did ten reps so fast it was said to resemble a

yo-yo going up and down. This was about 5

times Vinci's bodyweight.

Can anyone post more details?

Joe.

Did they lift on the same/ or different occasion?

I looked up info on Chuck, and it gave his deadlift

as 600 pounds i presume for a single.Would the stone

lift be of a partial nature given the ten repetitions and

     His 123 pounds bodyweight.

Ray,

Yes same occasion. Photo S&H Jan 1956 p 60

shows Anderson's lift. It appears that in his case

he would grab the handle just below his knee height.

In Vinci's case, given his short stature, he probably

grabbed the handle at or above knee height, giving him

of course an advantage in beginning leverage.

Interestingly, the text does not indicate that Paul's

effort was a record. Whoever lifted it highest on the

measures beside its travel path was considered the

best. So a very tall man, would have to bend over

farther to begin, but had the best chance for height

of lift. Paul, of course, was not a tall man.
