Top Roll Variations

There seems to be 2 main types of toprolls. One is more of a posting toproll and is used alot by Dave Patten. the other type of top roll is like cobra rhodes were it seems to be less backpressure and more side pressure. Could someone explain the differences for each move, what muscles are favored, which move it works well against, technique differences, what training exercises might help it etc.
