Greg Amidon certed under the new IM Pad rule.

Actually I certified under the old rules, when the new rule was established I did bend one with the IM pads. Couple of points about this:

It is much more important to chalk and wrap the bar perfectly than with other materials.

It is much more painful to bend with the IM pads, I dont care what style you use, the crushdown is painfull. I dont have the hands of a Steve McGranahan so I feel every millimeter of that bend.

Yes, I "recertified" using only the IM pads with Chris Caffery as my witness. I second everything Greg says about the pads. They also make for a very tedious wrapping procedure.

I have been using just the IM pads for quite some time - more painful and very important to use chalk.

My cert was with the IM pads.

I just got the IM pads. Any tips on wrapping with them? I take it that IM changed the cert rule so you have to use their pads now?

Fold each pad into thirds or fourths and then position the end of the nail so it's centered at the end of a pad. Now roll up the nail as tightly as possible, like a tortilla. But don't eat it.

How does the chalk help? I am ready to certify with the red, in fact I have been for some time. The pain from using just the IM pads is severe, and has limited my ability.

Dave, the least amount of moisture on your hands can render the IM pads slippery and unmanageable. The chalk just absorbs the moisture and allows you to maintain your grip without getting nasty blisters caused by your hands slipping across the coarse fabric.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't had any problems with the pads slipping.

Maybe you guys aint holding them tight enough ;) .
