  6. This has been driving me nuts for about a month now. I don’t understand how these 5/16x6” 303 stainless bars are so ridiculously hard but I have yet to be able to complete them in 1 go. I have to stop at the 2.5-3” range and go back to it 1 or 2 times to finish it off. It’s significantly harder than a Horrido 8.8 at 6” despite the rating at 7” being 120lbs under the unmodified 8.8. Idk if these are just some evil bars or if this is just a quirk with stainless but man it’s annoying

  7. Deficit Deadlift with Chains – 275lb Total 05-03-2024 Nothing clicked grip-wise today. Only decent thing is I think I landed on a deficit deadlift plan with chains for the final set. Only did three reps in my last set but it felt decent. Probably could have gotten five but I honestly thought I could go for 325 for one. Turns out that was too big of a jump and I maybe need to thow on a pair of 10s instead of 25s next time. Oh well...live and learn. Once I nail down my weights for this rep range, I'll microload going forward and keep nudging the top weight up bit by bit. 8. A muscle at a certain size cannot get infinitely stronger, I'm not sure why this is still up for debate, You have to get bigger to get stronger, Grip is no exception to that

  9. Workout 5/3/24: Squat: 122.5kg / 270lb x7 (PR) Leg Extensions (cable machine): 35kg x 3 sets of 15 Focusing on rest yesterday paid off because my back and legs felt fine when I woke up today. The workout called for 85% of 1RM +2.5kg x 4-6 reps for one set. Mid-set, around reps 3-4, I decided I didn't want to just match my PR again (122.5x6), so I did one more rep. I've been focusing on my depth control, and I think it's paying off. I basically have to tell myself to redirect earlier than I think I should. If I don't, I basically have the mobility for my butt to hit the floor, but it introduces a lot of movement in my low back, and it's just unnecessary because I hit good depth long before I hit the end ROM of my hips/ankles. I feel like the difference is pretty obvious in the squat comparison below.

  10. Bold statement to make to someone with a couple of decades of experience under in his belt like @Cannon, including seeing many gripsters come and go and judging countless certs. I'm not sure what your classes have been like, but I also took extensive/in-depth anatomy and physiology classes in medical school. I don't remember the one that made me an expert on the external appearance required for a certain level of force production applied to a torsion spring gripper

  14. I closed all these 3.5s after I did the #4. I would say the 200 MMS is harder than a 175 CCS, but I've been training CCS specifically since March. I started incorporating choker and MMS work a few weeks ago to get my closing power up after focusing on the sweep, so there isn't a definitive answer. I could train my MMS to 210, but if I didn't train CCS...175 CCS might seem harder. I hope that makes sense.

  15. A few years ago everybody would have said Yves is too small to lift the inch dumbbell and they'd all be wrong. Size is of course a factor in strength but it definitely isn't the only factor, you can make a muscle stronger or weaker without changing its size at all this isn't even controversial. For the extreme cases like a 140lb guy closing a #4 I agree that's totally impossible, but a 3.5 for someone over 200lbs isn't exactly rare. Enough people have closed a gripper with an RGC above bodyweight for us to know it's not remotely impossible, it's just very hard

  16. Can be! Stainless varies even more than crs, even before the crush. I've reversed 7mm square in IMPs to like 70-80 degrees in one hit (very soft stainless), yet struggled with some 5/16" round in thicker leather singles DU (super hard stainless). Alex actually fully bent one of these evil things DO (he got it from Phil who got it from me), at 8.4mm in diameter. It's no joke to put that bar to sub 2". And on the topic: when I still DUd in doubles, I failed the 8.8 three times, and I managed to do it once but took me more than 5 minutes.

  17. In terms of a needing to have a “certain look” to do extraordinary feats, I imagine the best living example of proof that it is not “necessary” is Dennis Rogers. Dennis cannot close a Number 3 Captain of Crush. I am sorry, but I don't remember where I read that, so I cannot cite it. i have never heard or read a bad word about Dennis from anyone: Strength-wise, or as a person, including some of the most legitimately skeptical strength and grip specialists. It is interesting that his name does not come up more often on this forum these days.

  22. That deserves separate comment from everyone. Here's mine. Your gripper rise has been meteoric. You've got both the raw material and the drive to go as far as anyone with grippers. It is a pleasure to watch your feats vids, and they are also exemplary vids, for others to emulate in sharing their own. Also, no one doubts your strength because you go to comps and do things in front of everyone in the same ballpark as what you post. This is how it is done, brother. Keep going. We are watching.

  23. There’s nothing quite as painful as being millimeters or seconds away from glory, so what better to embrace the suffering than to forever memorialize your near misses and time fails in this thread Bending is no fairy tale world, but ideally everyone will have a future follow up post announcing their vindication!!! Let’s see not only those 5.5cm DOH but also the 39degrre DU/reverses and horseshoes bent to 179 degrees and not a degree more to be had. To get the pain train rolling, a Horrido 6.5” 10.9 cert attempt off center and stuck for over 3 minutes with only 5/8” to go for a Top 5 spot on the Horrido list! Promptly followed up by an FBBC 6.5” Big Monster Square under cert conditions with under half an inch to go but no strength left to close the show! I can’t wait for the rematches with a centered 10.9 and the Big Monster Square as the first big bend of a session!!!

  24. Thanks John! I have a good starting point now. Thinking I'll pair this with one hand 2 7/8" Napalm Nightmare to lockout. Idea is to have deficit overload with a regular bar for general strength AND some tall loading pin work with a really wide handle to get some grip work in as well.

  25. I don't think there's really been any serious debate about this. Anyone with very basic knowledge understands this. I mean even with common sense you will understand this. The elephant is the strongest land animal, so it's not quantum physics we're talking about here. It's very simple to understand. Then there's always the internet pundits. But those people will always argue about everything, just to argue. It's probably the only way they can fill up their empty lives.

  26. As the classic stainless saying goes: “good job, only hardest part left” But really, small decreases in stainless length make for massive in increases in crush difficulty. In general, at 6” I think it is a harder bend to complete than a 6” Horrido 8.8, and even more so if you got an evil batch!!!

  27. Squats and Grip (overshadowed by a bending care package unboxing and cert attempt!) Started the day off with grip and a pretty lousy blob session. Goal was to finally lift my buddy’s Legacy 115 but it was glued to the ground. All circumstantial evidence (have lifted 2 dif Fatmans, legacy 110 easily, and near miss on Holle 24) to the fact I should be able to lift that blob but it continues to evade me!!! So then I ditched the blobs and did some pinch implements, highlighted by a 38.2 pound alien skull lift Then I sucked at grippers which I should’ve seen coming since I always suck when I don’t do them first plus I’d crushed ten shortened shinys day before. Dumb programming, I shoulda skipped them or done silver bullet if my heart was set on grippers. Then I worked through some squats with 100 & 176 lb sandbag at chest height and some single and double 70 lb kb in rack position. Fast forward to late night and a special episode of Bending after Dark!!! A care package from my buddy @tkovach724 arrived today and I couldn’t resist having a special session for it! He sends the bars individually wrapped, with sick artwork!, and then you’re to tear them open and bend as soon as it’s been torn open. I did a fun unboxing of all the bars and then went for the Amarok that he sent me. Amarok is a BendSport Canada 1/4”x6” g5 and used to be the BSC women’s version of Nanook, but now dudes can cert every BSC bar. I have a pair of the original BSC red cordura wraps so I did the bend in a single red cordura wrap since it’s too tough for me to barehand and wouldn’t be too sporting to hunt it with Moose Killers!!! Waiting to hear back the final judgment but it should be a good bend unless I forgot a cert step or something in my Bending After Dark excitement! If approved, I’ll be the first person in all 5 Bendsport Canada Halls of Fame: Ogopogo - Doubles Nanokk - Doubles Moose - BSC Green singkes Amarok - Single BSC Red Cordura Goose - Barehand

  34. This is always a weird thing for me. People do not need to look any certain way. And anyway, this guy does look a certain way. Dude is a 6'2" 230lbs MMA wrestler with 28 years of experience. He implies he trains grip for his sport. His wrists are thick as heck. His forearm hangs down with the gravity of a small moon and has a net of veins that should concern dolphins about bycatch True. I don't know what to think about the cut. On the one hand, it just should not be there. If the gripper cannot leave the frame for even a moment, then stopping the camera surely must count as leaving the frame. The camera did not seem to be focusing well on the stamp and they might have stood there for 3 minutes trying to get it to focus. It is in focus after the cut. Possibly this was trimmed for time by IronMind, I don't think we know. IronMind clearly otherwise edits the videos for the banners, song, etc. On the other hand, I'm not sure what could have been accomplished during the cut. The position of both his hands before and after is identical although the perspective shifts slightly to the left. That would be insanely hard to duplicate if he did in fact leave that position and had to return. Even if he did his best not to move and someone helped him change grippers, I think a swap is pretty implausible here. Landmarks remain on the gripper (stamp orientation, that blotch on the other handle). My least favorite thing about the cert is that the gripper did not come directly from IronMind. I think it should. From a cost perspective, it's understandable they have set a precedent that the gripper may be shipped from a local supplier. Also, maybe it had to in this case due to shipping sanctions on Russia. But how does that local individual pick a gripper? If they're anything like me, I can more or less ballpark the final strength while the gripper is in the package. I would absolutely know if I was sending a hard one, average one, or easy one. I'm not saying IronMind can't do that as well, but if they sent everything then at least they would be in control of "selecting the same way every time." All the same, the IM News write-up makes it clear that IronMind thanks BearGrip and there was a known witness to the cert who is a veteran IronMind referee although they are not named. Overall, this cert seems fine to me. People have called for witnesses to return and there seems to have been a trusted one on this cert. There is no requirement for a referee AND video, and the write-up highlights an emphatic confirmation from a witness. But it would be nice to hear about the cut. Did they see it? Did they make it?

  38. GHP Junior Gripper Fun - FOUR AT A TIME??? 05-02-2024 Gillingham High Perfomance (GHP) Juniors were a scaled down version of their Heavy Duty Hand Grippers. And the smaller handle diameter and narrower handle spacing made them great for kids. But for an adult...they felt a bit like a toy. Eventually you start to wonder how many you can squeeze at once... 43. The ROM increases by 1mm for every 1mm added to diameter since diameter applies it to both sides, which means 0.5mm per handle, assuming the same spring width and handle set of course. 1mm on the radius means 2mm on the ROM but also 2mm on the handle
