Congratulations to everyone some huge numbers were put up

Really nice job on the new world record also aaron that is a ridiculous gripper close from parallel set

Also super impressive job daniel considering how sick you have been and your injuries.  You put up some huge numbers and broke your record on the vbar.  Also was that new two hand pinch pr for you in contest?  You pushed aaron honestly

who is one of the best grip athletes ever and outweighs you, super job-though I know he has some back problems which probably didn't help-

Did you get any videos of some of the big lifts especially the record lifts?

Aaron just barely, barely missed (I think it was) a 199# gripper as well by less than a mm. A lot of damn strong performances today.

It was truly amazing how Daniel powered through the comp, given that he was still feeling green and less than optimal.  It was a great day for the competition.  There was a very good turnout; all the trophies were given out; and a lot of PRs were had.

Congratulations Aaron, and also well done on the results being up so quick. Not an easy task after a long day, but always enjoyable to read.

Well done all.

I will get the top 3s up on the main page, and look through the 2HP records.

Yep. There was an accidental misload and I took 2 attempts at, it was noticed and fixed but then I couldn't do nothing with it. Blew my wad on the first attempts and me thinking it was a lighter weight it got into my head a bit. Just one of those things that can happen. A good lesson for everyone is to confirm your own weights as well.

So after his 194 gripper close in lbs he did 108.5kg on the 2hp which is about 239lbs. It might look a little weird next to jason since he didn't get a 2hp lift in which he explained why-sucks to hear man but you did some good numbers otherwise-

Some other notable notables:

Aaron's new 2HP system, allowed us to smoothly transition widths once again, a very nice system.

The new Vbar setup he has is remarkable.  The seasoning of the handle remains unaffected during weight changes.  The whole apparatus was fabricated  with top notch quality.

Thanks to Aaron again for a well run contest and some truly innovative apparatus!!!

The AW guys didn't show, but we still did the 'hold my beer' feats at the end.  That was a lot of fun!!!  I learned I'm getting closer on the inch.  I can break it off the floor an inch or two.  I can do the 'finger on the globe' on the way up, and do negatives with the thing.

Lastly, there were a lot of friends and family that showed up to watch.  Tim Struse and family even showed for an hour or two!!!  It was a great social gathering as well, and the weather was pretty good.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. It really was a great contest and there were some great perfomances by many. Unfortunately there were a couple of misload incidents on the 2HP. We went to a Kilo system with the new Elieko Calibrated plates and I am not quite able to tell what is on there yet at a glance like the old pounds based setup. I think someone may have got a warmup pull between official rounds or something and added a plate, etc and it got missed. I feel absolutely terrible about it and will work harder to make sure that does not happen again. Sorry as well for the results format. It was late and I was trying to just paste into the thread from the excel spreadsheet and that does not work very well at all. I must have had to edit it at least 5 times just to get it to line up as it does now. The columns are:

Placing    Name    Weight (actual)    Weight Class     Grippers (lbs)     2HP (Kg)     Axle (Kg)     Vbar (Kilos and 50mm Men, 1.5" Women)     Final Pts      Placing

Hope that clears it up a bit more. I was pretty wiped out as well having lost my job the day before the comp. I think there were some pics and videos taken and many heavy things were lifted during and after the comp as well as drinking the finest beer I have ever tasted made by Zach for the comp. He called a Laphroaig Oaked Scottish 90 Shilling. The new vbar worked very well and so I was pretty happy about that too. Maybe somebody got some video of it in action. I believe I may still have a few extra shirts as well that I need to put up in the for sale section in case anyone is interested. Anyway thanks to all that came out, to Jason Steeves and Daniel Reinard for the cash sponsorship, and to Martin for the large number of hours he donated doing the woodwork and finishing of the amazing trophies.

Just got back up to FLG.  Ugg

Man that was a fun comp.  The highlights for me were the following:

Aaron's daughter getting upset seeing her dad almost fainting after a 194# gripper close.  (It was very cute)

The V-bar set up was ingenious.

Zacks beer may well be the best I have tasted.

Thanks a bunch Aaron!

I love coming out to this comp. Aaron does such a great job and the trophies this year are amazing! The best part is all the great people. I made sure to make more of a vacation out of this trip so I could spent time with people in Tucson and Phoenix outside of a grip comp. I was great to hang with old and new faces. Thank you all for such a great time and to everyone who made it a special event.

Aaron's miss on that 199# #4 was by a hair. That was amazing to watch. I knew I was in trouble for a 1st place when during pre comp warmups he had me judge a warmup gripper close. He crushed some gripper then he showed me the tag. 179#. Yeah, a warmup close. Dang. I was super happy to be back up in the 170s again and get all 4 gripper attempts. That was the goal. 2HP was tough. The sun was at it's hottest in the 90s. Hands were extremely tough to prep on this friction lift. I know I had to do things differently to get proper grip on the plates. Hitting a contest PR was also above expectations. I hadn't really done alot of 2HP in recent months. Axle just felt awful for me that day, which is weird because it normally is such a repeatable lift. I think I sat down too long when I started to feel sick again. My fever just broke that morning but I was still nausious all day, and having to sit on a can more times than I can count. I almost gave in to just thinking my body was spent but vbar ended up feeling good. I wasn't sure if my LH was going to hold up to max effort but the pain went away during warmups. The device was spanking new so being slick it was a little tough to guess when to enter. For a th lift I tried to break the 300 mark but I dropped it before legal height.

I was really happy to see so many PRs by alot of people. And we had some impressive new people that did well. I was happy to see my GF take 1st. It was a surprise to her since the female group was so close in points all day. I'm proud of her for doing so well and also for playing nurse to me. She practiced only a little bit of grip a few weeks out and she got to reap the rewards of that. And congrats to Aaron again for 1st. He was a beast that day. Also congrats to Martin. He was a novice last year and this year he made even more gains to place in the open class. He has what it takes to keep on progressing year after year to be a real contender for top of class.

Forgot to mention how good the beer was.  Zach kicks ass with that stuff!

A couple things I learned

On the 2HP, it felt very different from what I'm used to hear at home, and I really had to change up how I prepared my hands for the lift.  The discussion on gripstrength radio about not taking the pull till you have figured out how to get your friction stuck in my mind this time around, and that made a big difference for me.

V-bar - I was really surprised at how well I did on this, considering I had only trained it once or twice in the last two months, and it was a fairly new surface.  Unofficially, I pulled a 275 after my 4th attempt, which was a pleasant surprise.

Grippers - it was hard getting my CNS up for this.  Ended up doing like 4-5 sets of squats between gripper and 2HP events in the morning to get in gear.

Its really amazing that you were able to hit the numbers guy did considering the weather conditions.  Noone sounded like they were at their peak either so the big group environment must have really got the CNS firing on some of those events to hit the numbers you guys got.

Really cool I'd love to see the big 2hp/vbar and gripper closes especially the 199 miss and 194 close.  I think aaron should make a run at the mm 7 again.

Sounds like the event was really a major success.  Its about a 7.5 hour drive for me I will try to drive down the day before and get a hotel for the weekend to make it next year.  I am still new to grip having only begun training this year but it this seems like a really cool contest to go too.

Great job guys. Great numbers. Of course Aaron's gripper close caught my eye since I'm a gripper guy. That 194 is your #4 right Aaron? The one I have seen you, Paul and Time Close on youtube vids? Very impressive.
