:help Im looking to buy my first block weight from

http://www.intensefitness.co.uk/Products-Grip-Tool.html

But Im not sure which weight to start with, as im just a beginner and my grip isnt all that strong just yet.

Also Im a bit confused to the weight of these blocks a 30lb or 40lb block works out to only about 12-20 kg, isnt this quite light??? Maybe ive got it wrong or something but this sounds rather easy to lift really.

Im not sure anyway, please help

the weight isnt that much but the width that you have to pinch them makes it very difficult, if you have never trained your pinch grip before then start out lighter ones, or you could try and ordering one of the blob's off this board.

I've chosen the PDA Blobette, a fillable block weight with the dimensions of the original blob (~50lbs).

Filled with lead shot the blobette weighs up to 68lbs. :whacked

That should be enough forever.

Just buy the heaviest weight you think you'll ever need and deload it. Saves lots of cash.

Can anyone tell me where to obtain some good block weights or a fillable blob, im from U.K and need 1 urgently.

I made a block weight using a brick with smooth sides all the way round, and attatched a loading pin to it with weight, 30-40 lbs isnt all that difficult to lift and im fairly weak at the moment. Im really confused, what makes the blob or block weights so difficult to lift???

The width and the surface. Bricks are rough, blobs are smooth. Check the FAQ section for blob measurements, and make yourself a smooth pinch block that size. Even then it's not as tough as the blob since it's above a loading pin and not right on the ground.

Actually Frank, I've got my Blobette completely packed w/#8 lead shot and I doubt its much more than 55lbs, definately less than 60lbs. I inquired about this w/PDA and was told the "estimated" weight of 68lbs was done w/finer lead shot. You'd probably have to melt some of the lead to get it that heavy.

Cajunjay,

if you're fairly new to grip training, 30lb should be a good start. I bought a 30 and a 40, and only 3 guys at my gym could even move the 40 to start with.

Once the 30 starts to get easy, you can lift it with fewer fingers, eg thumb and index, thumb and middle, etc, etc. Once that gets too easy it's time to shell out for a 40lb.

Enjoy!

would it be better to buy a 30lb blob or weight block or insted buy a couple of plates to pinch with?

Plates have the advantage that you can use them for other things as well, but blobs/block weights are just so nice to use! :D

Also blob and plates are different dimensions so it is not exactly the same exercise.

Wide grip vs narrower grip.
