ruffhans
Yesterday i walked out side to go to the store, ( my wife wanted me get something, cant remember what). i have been doing my workouts out side recently. i had a softball hooked to about 45,50 lbs for pinch gripping. it wasnt a pinch day for me, but i had just finished some chrome balls work for hand health and my hands where pumped. i thought id pinch the softball once in each hand before heading down to the store. well, it had been raining and the ball was very slipery. i went to pinch grip it and couldnt get it of the ground, it just slipped rite out of my hand like snot! oh well no biggy i wasnt looking to train my thumb anyway. however i got a little upset. i said to my self, " darn, those guys on the gripboard are pinching heavy stuff!! i can only pinch 50 lbs on a softball". now 50 lbs on a pinch is ok to me, ( if im going up agianst my nieghber, but i remembered Sorin pinching an anvil,.... , so i thought im going to get this damn wet wieght off the ground! i tried,.....tried,.....tried,...then i even tried! it didnt move! had to take off 20 lbs to lift it! i thought man what a workout, a bad workout cuz i didnt lift my normal 50 lbs?, nope. a good workout cus i had to give everything i had due to the wet ball! my piont? every now and then im going to dip my softball in cooking oil and pinch like my life depends on it. even if the wieght never leaves the ground, just trying is an all out effort, and a fine workout. then my mind started to remember to ol' Johns book, and how he said he would put oil or soap on the poles for climbing. maybee i will try it with my thick handled dunmbell some time. i wiegh 245 lbs and can hang from a 2 inch bar for about 7 secs. during my next workout ill rub my hands in oil first. i will let you know how it goes. SqeezeMasterFlash
It's always a good idea to make your grip work tougher than it has to be. Nice tip!

gripmeister
Wet, oiled, smooth bar, taped bar, smooth bar with chalk, bars with knurling and bars with very sharp knurling...it all comes down to the role of friction between the contact points and of course, surface area of the contact points. For an extreme example, cover your hands and object with a teflon-based solution...you'll not be able to move anything since the amount of friction will be nearly non-existent. Scott Styles
I would think using a friction based lift like pinch with wet hands would lead to excessive skin loss once the calluses soften.
ruffhans
Well this is only on a softball lift! and it is only now and then for an inceased thump workout. not every day.
