milkbone
I have been working with my 38 lb blob that I got from Sybersnott and today finally lifted off the ground and went overhead with it. I was surprised that I got this lift considering I could only hover it slightly when I first got it. Anyway, my first question: Is the traditional blob like 48 lbs, or a little over 50 lbs? I'm confused on this issue after seeing Sorin's pictures of the blob with like 52.something written on it. My second question: How big of a gap is it between the 38 lb blob and the traditional ~50 lb blob, as far as lifting it goes? If I can overhead the ~38 lb blob, should I be able to hover the ~50, or am I a long way away. The reason I ask this is I have found that for some lower arm strength lifts, such as RT, 10 lbs can feel like 50 lbs. Am I close to lifting "The Blob", or am I just starting down the road. Seeing as how I can't get my hands on the real thing, I have no point of reference for this feat of strength.
smitty
You are still a long way away from the BLOB I believe the BLOBs today are right around 50 lbs and Sorin's is 52.5 lbs and slightly wider than today's stock

SqeezeMasterFlash
Grab a replica when they come out. I can't lift the Blob yet, but I don't think anything will beat training on the real thing. Negatives and deloads will hopefully get me there.
milkbone
I will definitely be in line to get one if/when they come out. I'm afraid to believe there might actually be a replica coming out ... I don't like false hope. I'll believe it when it arrives on my doorstep and starts calling me names and taunting me. As a side note, I brought my 38 lb blob to work and had some people try it out. I brought the grippers in too. Talk about some funny stuff watching everyone try to hoist the thing with one hand! I mashed the #3 (with set) to a hairs length from closing today at lunchtime. It was close enough that the guy that was watching me thought I had it closed. I am a firm believe in block weights now. I have seen progress in my hand strength in 1 week of working with the 38 lb blob (3 sessions). I'm definitely going to buy some lighter blobs from Sybersnott that I can pass from hand to hand. I'm hooked.
mANVIL
milkbone, sorry to say but you are still a long ways away from the 50. I was able to clean my 35lbs blob about 5 or 6 times and just about snatch it before I was able to even deadlift my 40lbs blob once to lockout. It's definitely not a simple linear progression...In about 2 weeks I went from barely deadlifting the 25 to getting the 35 and was stumped on the 40 for a while. Once you get past the 35-40 mark it's like you said every pound feels like a mile. York must have erred on the side of caution and made their dumbells a bit heavier then marked because all the traditional blobs that I have bought & weighed all seemed to be just a little heavier then half their dumbells weight. Also some of Sorins picutes may have a small magnet weight attatched to the blob to add a bit of extra weight.
milkbone
milkbone, sorry to say but you are still a long ways away from the 50. Yeah, I figured as much. I am still anxious to try the BLOB 50 though. I like having a point of reference for stuff like that.

I'll be out of pocket this weekend, but I'm free a couple of evenings this week (Wed, Thurs). Otherwise, next week some time. I sent you email about getting together, so just let me know what works for you. My schedule is pretty flexible.
