Brad Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 I have continued my specialization in pinch grip training. The majority of the work that I do is hanging from the rafters (I just have more fun training that way). I have continued to increase my ability to do a variety of weighted pinch grip pull-up variations. My current bests are: On rafters 32" apart- Bodyweight plus 106 pounds On rafters 16" apart- Bodyweight plus 72 pounds On a single rafter with thumbs on the same side and palms facing away-Bodyweight plus 36 pounds On a single rafter with thumbs on opposite sides-Bodyweight plus 25 pounds On a single rafter with thumbs on same side and palms facing me-Bodyweight plus 10 pounds I am experimenting with some varieties of rafter walking. Two separate rafters with short steps and the hand grabbing the same rafter that was released. I haven't made much progress with distance on these but only try it once every couple of weeks. I have recently started training cross rafter walking where you hang from two rafters 16 inches apart in rewgular rafter pull-up position and release one hand and grab the next rafter over (hands are now 32" apart) and then release the other hand and grab the rafter that the other hand was initially holding (hands are again on rafters 16" apart). So far, I have only managed one step. On separate occasions I have moved from 32" to 16" and from 16" to 32" ( I have fallen a time or two!) I have some other varieties that I want to work on but am not ready for yet. Brad
homersimpson Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 (edited) Brad you're a legend how much can you pinch off the ground?. Edited May 1, 2004 by homersimpson real name - Andy mitchell
Davekline Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Sounds like interesting stuff. For refferance, how much do you weigh and how big are these rafters? Life without iron would be a very weak alloy.
Brad Posted May 1, 2004 Author Posted May 1, 2004 homersimpson-I have not attempted to lift off the floor in months. I have noticed that my pinch strength is much stronger when grabbing objects the approximate width of the rafters. I am not very good at thick grip pinching. My best guess would be between 170 and 180 pounds off the floor with two hands but this is just a guess. Dave-I am short and light. 5'7" and 145 pounds. The rafters are 2 inches wide.

Brad Posted May 1, 2004 Author Posted May 1, 2004 Anson, Thanks for the compliment! I will probably do that this summer. The video in the gallery was filmed by my 11 year old son. My wife is working, going to school, and running our house and she just does not have the time to film me right now. She will graduate next month and will have much more time. Brad
