f1perez Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Hello everyone, I was thining of incorporating finger tip pushups into my grip routine. Just wondering what aspect of grip does it most improve? Crush, pinch grip, wrist or supporting grip? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Quote
king crusher Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 imo...i think maybe alittle of all, all around stronger hands/wrists. Quote
crushjunior Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 I would imagine that the fingers themselves are strengthened more than anything. The grippers don't do very much for this area, imho. Quote
f1perez Posted May 1, 2004 Author Posted May 1, 2004 I definately agree that the fingers are strengthened, but which aspect of grip strength do you guys believe it will have the most carryover effect on? Quote
Jonathan McMillan Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 I would have to say extensors. Jon@han Quote 2007 goal: get a #3 shut
Anuwbius Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Are we talking about fingertip pushups done on the finger pad, where your finger print would be, or on the finger TIPS, pointing directly into the ground. I have never been able to do the latter, but have seen it done. I think that it hits the joints of the fingers the most. Quote My Gallery Ethan Wolf, CSCS

I have never been able to do the latter, but have seen it done. I think that it hits the joints of the fingers the most. That's what I was wondering. I can't do any pushups on the tips of my fingers but I can do them on just my index finger and thumb is I'm resting on the pads. I had a friend that could do pushups using only his thumbs. I think doing them on the pads is more a test of pain tolerance than strength. I don't think it would do much for improving hand strength. Quote
raziel Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 For me, fingertip pushups feel like I've just done some plate curls. good stuff I think they're good for general all-around hand strength, and hopefully carry over to card tearing Quote Jim Bathurst Washington, DC Perpetual goal - #3 close + cert
mossman Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 with finger tip pushups, i have done them since being 12, and im now 15, i can honestly say that they do give all around strong hands......but they do hit the crush fairly hard if you do them on the thumb, ring and pinkie, or anywhere inbetween. You have to crush in sortof to hold yourself up. I have worked up to 5 pushups using only my thumb and any finger on each hand, and man do they hurt. The results are well worth the effort though. Guest gripmaster316 Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 I am going with John M. on this one, the extensors would clearly benefit from finger tip pushups. Quote
thomas straub Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 I'am sure it would also help your hub pinch grip. Quote
nagual Posted May 1, 2004 Posted May 1, 2004 Just tried a couple today. Dang they hurt, don't they? I feel it mostly in the finger joints, feels like the fingers are going to snap. However, seems like it works most of the hand, extensors, thumb etc. Did not seem like it involved crush to any significant degree. Perhaps if you do Brad´s spider push-ups... Quote
f1perez Posted May 2, 2004 Author Posted May 2, 2004 I would agree that finger tip pushups would have a carryover to card tearing and maybe hub pinching since those feats require lots of finger strength. Quote
mossman Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 I just wanted to explain what i said earlier about crush...the reason why i feel it affects it is because in gripper crush, i have a hard time getting any pressure from the ring and pinkie fingers. When i dramatically strengthed these by pushups, they could actually thrust against the gripper, giving me a much more powerful crush. Just some food for thought Quote #3 closure- Feb. 23th, 2005 (choker 1 1/2'' set) (ON DEADLIFTING) I WANT TO HAVE AN ASS CRACK THAT RUNS CLEAR UP TO THE TOP OF MY NECK - BEATTY I'M NOT ON STERIODS, YOU'RE JUST WEAK - MIKE H
king crusher Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 i have never tried these but tried tonight....i can do them with my finger prints...not tips, but this depends alot on your weight, because if you take a guy whos 160 and a guy whos 240 there fingers and bones are going to be pretty close to the same in design so therefore the guy whos 160 can probable do better at this, im 240 and need all my fingers to support my weight, i tried with just 4 fingers and cant...regular pushups i can do 100 easy. If you haven't tried out block weights, I seriously suggest you give it a go. Quote Jim Bathurst Washington, DC Perpetual goal - #3 close + cert
mossman Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 i just started block weights so im waiting for a month to see how muhc i gain...one thing, i am fairly heavy, around 220, so i get alot from pushups...also try holding a handstand on fingers.....i have seen a shaoulin monk do this on the index finger of each hand absolutely mind boggling Quote #3 closure- Feb. 23th, 2005 (choker 1 1/2'' set) (ON DEADLIFTING) I WANT TO HAVE AN ASS CRACK THAT RUNS CLEAR UP TO THE TOP OF MY NECK - BEATTY I'M NOT ON STERIODS, YOU'RE JUST WEAK - MIKE H
