VeGripper Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Okay, I can pinch 4 10 lb. plates in either hand and hold for some decent time with no problem, but damn, how the heck do average or small-handed people get 5 plates to stay put? I keep trying since I know I've got the pinch to hold if I can get enough of my fingers on them, but I'll be damned if they don't all squeeze apart at the bottom as I lift up since I'm only pinching the top inch of the stack. I measured it at just a hair past 5" wide - I can only fit the tip of my index finger at the last joint and that's where the problem lies. I put a loading pin through the stack and collared it and could lift to waist high with either hand once the plates couldn't slip out, and I even managed with an additional 5 lbs. added to make it around 56 lbs. total, but it seems next to impossible when the plates are free to break apart at will. So, my question is, any tricks for training pinch at a full hand extension, other than training with wide-ass blocks? Not that I don't have my sights set on getting some blocks to play with this week, but anything else that might aid in wide pinching that y'all have found to be helpful would be great! And hats off to those of you who have done this feat. I hope to manage it someday, and it doesn't seem to be an easy road to get there! Quote I maintain against the grain
OldGuy Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 What make of plates are you using? Quote Not afraid to ruffle feathers!
austinslater Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 You can use multiple 2x6's, Mortons pvc blob idea and a few other things. Im sure its possible for you it will just take some work. Maybe continue to add wieght with the bar setup and also train without the bar and find ways to make it harder when doing 4x10's. Good Luck! Austin Quote Austin Slater West Richland, Wa
dthor Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Try 4-10s with a 5 on the end. The 5 should be a bit thinner than the 10 lb plates that you are using. This should help you work up to 5-10s. Quote
Clay Edgin Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I had a hard time doing 5-10's until I tried lifting the plates without the aid of my index finger. There is a wider spread between your thumb and middle finger than your thumb and index finger, so try pinching with just your middle, ring, and pinky fingers. Quote
Old Dax Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I know I'm new but this is what I would try: get some washers that fit over the central bar / pin and gradually add them while keeping the weight the same, until you are doing 4x10lb but the same thickness as 4x10lb. Then you could slowly build up the weight by micro-loading. Just an idea, Old Dax Quote
Old Dax Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Oops, I meant until it is as thick (wide) as 5x10lb old Dax Quote
