Vise Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 i was just wondering what everyone's favorite exercise for improving your grip strength. this is, or course, excluding the simple exercise of the closing of a gipper, but not excluding strap holds, collar closes, extended handle closes, etc. i say this to avoid the stupid " uh, a gripper" posts. also when i say favorite i mean most productive exercise, for the two don't always correlate (i.e. i hate dl but they make me strong like bull). thanks Quote Ryan Smith
EricMilfeld Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 (edited) I think deadlifts with a medium- thick bar are very productive, though I don't much care for training thick bar. Edited April 11, 2004 by EricMilfeld Quote
Sean Dockery Posted April 11, 2004 Posted April 11, 2004 I gotta say my favorite exercise for grip strength is blockweights. Wait a minute, that would be favorite implement....favorite exercise is blockweight deadlifts. Quote Patient consistency will always triumph over fickle enthusiasm. Jesus Christ is not a hobby. Sybersnott Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Strap holds have to rank high if not #1! They never did work for me. Steve Weiner (3Crusher) asked me to do them and I did... but I didn't get anything out of them. A short time later I learned about negatives and I started making the gains I was looking for. I also did work on the Secret Weapon and that made me gain my grip strength more than anything else. Strapholds are great and they have worked for a bunch of guys - I say find out what works best for you and stick with it; you'll experiment a bit, but that's o.k. - grip training is a journey and getting to your goal is half the fun!!! foggymountainmuscle Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 I would say clean and jerks, or clean and presses with any impliment with a tough or ackward grip. Plates, thickbars, hubs, blockweights, even leverage bars come to mind. Taking something you can barely lift off the ground and putting up over your head is just cool. I'm a pretty good O lifter if I were to say, and a tough grip just makes for a sadistic challenge. VeGripper Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Quarter deadlifts and static holds.
