Zach Passman Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 I've been looking for a resource to help me with horseshoe bending technique--as I'm unsure where to begin. Can't find much in the way of useful info within the "search" function, or anywhere else, really. Does anyone have a link to a page, or a hard-copy resource? Thanks. Quote
EricMilfeld Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 This is a great question. I too would love to see a video of a horseshoe bend, as I'd like to give this a try. Talk about an impressively visual display of strength! Quote
Clay Edgin Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 There are others here more qualified to give instruction given their experience and high levels of strength, but if I get the chance I will do a quick video of a shoe being bent. The problem is that I can't record the audio. But some folks learn better by watching anyways. Quote
Zach Passman Posted April 6, 2004 Author Posted April 6, 2004 A video would be great--do you know if there is anyplace online where one might find info? I can't find diddly. Quote
supersqueeze Posted April 6, 2004 Posted April 6, 2004 I bent (straightened) my first horse shoe last week. The method I used involved bracing, bracing and more bracing. I used both my hip and thigh to brace against at different times durring the bend. I used the outside of right hip at the start of the bend and finished it over my thigh. I also used leather gloves to avoid being cut by the rusty/dirty shoe. I would be interested in seeing Clay's, or anyone elses, method. Mike M. Quote

foggymountainmuscle Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 John Brookfield covers horseshoe bending in great detail and has photos in the Gripmaster's Manual. Want me to quote from it? I'm pressed for time now, but if you're interested I'll put it up tomarrow. I hope to be getting some horseshoes from a friend real soon. Rick Walker Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 PM Terminator. He is the horse shoe bending KING! At NOS2 he bent 5+ #4's into a heart shape, it was freaking amazing! He did them in each in les then a minute-quick and destructive. I saw him showing the technique to a couple of large dudes, they werent from the GripBoard so I am not sure who they were. I over heard one of them say, "Oh, now I have it!" then he gave it a go until his face was purple and didnt even kink the thing. And, I believe Pat gave him an easier one then the ones he was bending. Rick Walker Quote "I ain't afraid to die anymore...I've done it already."
AP Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 Wow, I bent mine much differently than in that video. Bracing is definitely needed, I used my left thigh and kind of used two different techniques - kind of a rowing one for the start and more of a pressing one for the finish. I doubt my shoe was nearly as strong as the one in that video though. Quote Pastrami on Wry
