Size of horseshoes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am looking for horseshoes to bend, but have never bent any before so I wanted to start off with novice shoes.

I found these:

https://www.centaurforge.com/Kerckhaert-SX-7-Horseshoes-Unclipped/products/547/

What size do I need to get? Are they all the same strength, but just vary in size?

What size would be good for a beginner?

Thanks

Saw your other post, responding here. This list has a progression of kerckhaerts including the sx7 series, not sure if you have seen it.

That's perfect, thanks

If you never bent before I think sx7 is going to be too hard for you. Unless you have some type of talent for bending horseshoes. Or if you have experience with braced bending.

Thanks.

I ended up finding diamond classic 1 & 2. Would they be more suitable?

I don't know, I haven't tried them.

But you're going to order from overseas?

In that case just buy a lot of shoes so you have for a long time. Just be aware that many of the shoes listed on the lists here on GB, although they are listed as "easy" are not at all easy. They are just listed there because they are easier

Horseshoe progression is very hard, it's quite similar to having a bunch of unrated grippers with really big jumps.

The first shoes that Anton listed in his ranking thread are good beginner shoes. Kings Steel is very easy, a bit too easy I would say, they're like closing a Ironmind trainer or maybe a #1. However they can easily be taped together for progression.

SX7 is a lot harder than the other shoes in the green field on that list. Those in the orange field is much harder and are not beginner shoes, more like intermediate I would say. I would say going up there is like going from COC#1 to COC#2.5. So it's a big jump.

Try to see if you can find some half round shoes. Those are not listed there in that list but I think they are good as beginner shoes.

Just buy a whole bunch of shoes in all ranges. Just be aware that most horseshoes is really hard to bend, so make sure you have plenty that you can actually bend to start with.
