dean_redzic Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I am thinking of buying a gripper in a adjustable choker. How much higher rcg should one get than their current max rgc close. I normally train mms but was thinking of getting an adjustable choker and starting a few mm from close. Is 20rgc too much? Quote
Grepm.m Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I wouldn’t go higher than 20. I have one that’s 200 RGC. I’m a few mm away from closing it from below parallel. My best CCS is a 162 rated cobalt. My best non CCS is a 169 rated 3.5. I could probably deep set around 175 with a proper set. I can do some clicks with my 175-180 choked heavy grips 350. I can close my 160 rated china gripper several times from below parallel. 10-20 RGC above your max is good, then you have something to work towards. And you can increase the spread as your strength builds up. I choke my own grippers. Costs me about 10 each. I also have a 224 rated and choked coc 4, not shown in the picture. 1 Quote CoC #3 CCS - Standard Cobalt CCS - CoC #3.5 deep set - 134.7 kg / 297 lbs GM150 dynamometer - Inch dumbbell lift both hands
Cannon Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Just keep in mind the point is to get sets and reps in the choker. Not eke out a PR close. Honestly if your current max is a 170 close (or whatever) consider getting a 170. 3 Quote

I did not listen and thought I knew better and went too high, now I have a lovely paperweight that I can't do anything with 2 Quote
Grepm.m Posted November 25 Posted November 25 I’ll moderate myself. My comment can be interpreted several ways. If you want to go above, do not buy anything heavier than 20 rgc above your current max! Several choked grippers = more practical than one. Buying (one) around your current max is probably the best way to go. Shout out to Cannon and Climber028 for giving better and clearer advice than me! 2 Quote CoC #3 CCS - Standard Cobalt CCS - CoC #3.5 deep set - 134.7 kg / 297 lbs GM150 dynamometer - Inch dumbbell lift both hands
Slipshod Posted November 25 Posted November 25 It mostly depends on how different your wide sets are from your parallel/narrow. If there is a larger gap then you can get away with higher on a choker, however if like me there is barely any difference going from TNS, CCS or parallel then +20 isn't going to be closeable and therefore pretty pointless Quote
