So I was on FB market place and I stumbled across a set of coc grippers being sold for extremely cheap and could tell they were in pretty rough shape. So I decided I would try to save them.

The set was

G,T,1, 1.5, 2, 3.5 modern coc grippers

And to my delight there was a set of single stamped grippers ( 1, 2,3,4)

They were obviously sitting outside or in a garage for a long time as the spring were rusted badly and were sitting it something corrosive as the handles were "melted" I didn't manage to get any before photos but some photos after I did my best to restore them

wowza. Those look like they were in a shed or garage  for a long while in some harsh conditions.

you did a good job cleaning them up. How do they feel to close?

They actually feel good... I have never touched the older coc before they feel significantly harder than the newer ones, is that common?

Wow, what a find!! Excited to hear what it's like working with them compared to the newer ones.

That’s a great score , you are a hero for saving them and giving them a new life.

Yes that Sarah McLachlan song runs through my head when I see those pictures.

Did you use anything other than oil and a wire brush to restore, interested that the tarnish came off so well

Just used 3 in 1 oil (alot of it) and wrapped it in a plastics bag overnight , when went to town on it with the brush... Wiped everything off. And the oiled the springs again

Just oiled the whole grippers put them in a plastic bag neatly and then brushed them the next day. Wiped them down and put drops between the coils on the springs

That’s good to hear, I have one that’s tarnished and was wondering best way. Glad it didn’t involve any harsh chemicals or sand blasting. Great job
