little big horn finish

I'm making a Little Big Horn, so I'm curious about the finish on one of them. Is it a very clean finish, or are there tool marks for some grip? I've looked at images, but they're all grainy, so I can't get a clear idea. It seems like there are some tool marks, but I'm not totally sure.

I thing something like light satin will be best.

Do you weld it or turn on a lathe?

I can take a picture of mine tomorrow and morning. I've honestly never used it and it has a bit of rust on it. Its just steel though nothing on it to aid with grip if thats what your asking.
