wulfgeat Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I was looking for his website and I came across this: https://www.ancscremation.com/obituary/sonny-barry This makes me sad. Quote
wulfgeat Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 I never met Sonny, but hoped I might meet him one day. His videos have and will continue to inspire me to greater things. May you rest in peace Sonny. Quote
dean_redzic Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Had no idea who he was, but found this impressive video: https://youtu.be/FpJtNqOFEAU?si=xqkn8OvLq4DYQF5A 1 Quote

Didn't know who he was, came across a video of him at one of the AOBS dinners, and looked him up. I had my mind blown so many times. Like in that video, he starts the horseshoe bend unbraced, and bends an 8 inch crescent double underhand 🤯 I remember there were several times I was trying figure out what something was (like the mighty atom bend) and the first informative thing I could find would be him doing said thing. The video that most blew my mind was him bending a ~3-3.5 inch 3/8 inch thick carriage bolt between his legs with compression strength 😱. . . I'm sad I'll never get to meet him. Truly a scary strong man. Quote
Blacksmith513 Posted September 10 Posted September 10 What an outright animal. And sounds like he was good at everything he put his hands on, steel, people, instruments. RIP Sonny 1 Quote
wulfgeat Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 You can see him lever a 20lb sledge on the second page of the sledgehammer levering. David Wigren also had some things to say. 1 Quote

Londonjoseph Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It is sad to hear Sonny Barry has passed. He was legitimately strong, and very open about what he could or couldn't do. That is a rare trait among performers. Like David said, there isn't a reason to have some mystery around what your best is if you're actually strong! 1 Quote

David_wigren Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Very sad to hear this. He would post and visit from time to time back on the old Benders battlefield forum. He was a kind and respectful person. And incredibly strong, even though he was well into his 60’s back then. 3 Quote

That is strength that’s built over a life time plus he backed Chubby Checker. I wonder if he showed him his version of the “Twist” twisting open a horse shoe 1 Quote
