Colorado Springs, Colorado

Sponsors:

https://armassassinstrengthshop.com

https://ironmind.com

Cannonpowerworks.com

Format:

This event is sanctioned by GSI, and all records/lifts will be tracked in the database.

Events other than 30mm grippers will be contested in a last person standing format.

 - Once you miss a lift, you are out.

 - There will not be a limit on attempts but the promoter is empowered to step in if excessive attempts are slowing down the flow of the event.

 - Athletes will have one minute to complete a successful lift.

 - Athletes are not required to attempt every time the weight is increased. You are allowed to skip weights as you wish.

The event will be scored using reverse strongman scoring.

 - 1st place in an event will receive one point, 2nd place will receive two points, etc.,

 - The athlete with the lowest cumulative score after all events will be declared the winner.

 - Scoring will be tracked within each gender’s weight and age class, as well as overall.

- Prizes will be announced soon!

Classes:

Men’s - 59k, 66k, 74k, 83k, 93k, 105k, 120k, 120k+

Women’s - 47k, 52k, 57k, 63k, 72k, 84k, 84k+

Master's Age Brackets: 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+

Events:

30mm Grippers

 - Athletes will be allowed three attempts to close the highest rated gripper possible.

  - Each attempt will have a thirty second time limit, beginning once the athlete starts setting the gripper.

  - Athletes are NOT required to use all three attempts.

  - You can still use your remaining attempts if you happen to fail your first or second attempt.

 - A 30mm setting block must be passed completely between the handles in clear view of a judge before closing the gripper.

 - The gripper handles must be confirmed by a judge as clearly touching before the gripper is released by the athlete.

  - Each attempt will be filmed by another judge in the event it needs to be reviewed.

 - Only magnesium chalk can be used on the athlete’s hands.

 - The gripper must be closed with spring pointing upwards. Various angles will be allowed, but the gripper cannot be held upside down.

 - The free hand may only be in contact with the gripper during the set. Once the set block is passed through the handles, the free hand may not touch the gripper or any part of the gripping arm.

 - In the event that an athlete has an open cut on their setting hand, they may be able to cover it with up to 2 layers of medical tape/bandage, to keep bleeding and contamination under control.

 - Ironmind & Standard grippers with ratings of 51, 60, 66, 73, 77, 80, 83, 102, 104, 116, 124, 128, 135, 140, 147, 148, 150, 152, 161, 162, 165, 174, 177, 180, 185, 192, 195, 200, and 212 will be provided.

  - We will also have a device to increase the gripper difficulty by 1.5 RGC increments, if needed.

 - Only grippers provided by the event organizer will be allowed, in order to prevent cheating.

Double Overhand Axle Deadlift (Apollon's Axle)

 - The axle must be grasped in a double overhand grip, no hook grip is allowed.

 - Only magnesium chalk is allowed on the athlete’s hands.

 - A conventional or sumo stance is permitted.

 - The axle must be lifted to a full lockout, with the knees locked in a straight position and the shoulders back, and the athlete standing erect. The judge will then signal the athlete to return the bar to the floor with a downward movement of the arm and the audible command "down".

 - It is permissible for the axle to settle as the athlete pulls his shoulders back and relaxes his shrugged shoulders.

 - Supporting the bar on the thighs before the “down" command is not permitted.

 - Stepping backward or forward or moving the feet laterally before the “down" command is not permitted. Rocking the feet between the ball and the heel is permitted.

 - Both hands must be in contact with the axle as it is returned to the platform.

3x4” Napalm Nightmare Pinch Blocks (AASS)

 - Only magnesium chalk is allowed on the athlete’s hands.

 - A conventional or sumo stance is permitted.

 - The weight must be lifted 6" until the knock bar on the loading pin comes into contact with the crossbar. There is no down command to wait for.

 - Both hands must be in contact with the implement as the weight is returned to the platform.

 - Supporting the bar on the thighs is not permitted.

 - Swinging the weight is not permitted.

 - Athletes are permitted to stand on boxes or blocks, if needed.

Mini / Shallow Inch Pinch (AASS)

 - Only magnesium chalk is allowed on the athlete’s hands.

 - The implement must be grasped with a “key pinch” grip, meaning the implement is grasped between the thumb and the outside of the index finger.

  - Finger “stacking” is permitted to apply maximum pressure, but only the thumb and index finger are allowed to be in contact the implement.

  - Fingers cannot go under the baseplate or bottom edge of the implement at anytime.

 - The weight must be lifted 6" until the knock bar on the loading pin comes into contact with the crossbar. There is no down command to wait for.

 - The implement may be grasped with a pronated or supinated grip.

 - The athlete is not permitted to touch any part of the loading pin during their attempt.

Nice to see the 2" vbar being contested again!  Not sure why it fell out of favor over the past few years.

Kansas isn't too far from Colorado Springs. It would be cool if you and Chad Gustin end up competing.

I won't be there, unfortunately.  Already have plans for that weekend.  It sounds like a fantastic contest and there are people there I would like to meet.  I'll let Chad know about it.  Colorado Springs is one of my favorite places to visit, and I've been there maybe a dozen times over the years.

This will be an annual thing.  See you at the next one!

I have an FBBC final form vbar with 1" head.  I am debating ordering the 2" head.  As we are less than a month out, probably best to train with an old barbell sleeve.

A barbell sleeve would work just great. You might set it on a 6" pedestal to get the pick height right.

Thank you, Michael! The mini inch pinch award was very generous!

I was having a rough day in those 100º+ temps. I know it's not great in the big picture, but I'm super happy with my 154lb 30mm gripper close.

The overall top five men using reverse strongman: Jayland-6, Steve-14, Colton-15.5, Jeremy-17.5, Clint-20.

Steve, your 154# (30 MM) is very strong in any picture! Nice humble brag, too:) (Just Kidding) Iam expert at it, LOL (Not Kidding)

You inspired me to start back grippers yesterday and hopefully the New Gripboard Hand Gripper will be going in the near future.

You are so much stronger with grippers than I am. You will get the new Mash Monster 160 first go I bet. I wish there was a 155 similar to the MM1 for us weaker guys.

I'll look for the video of you doubling a 154 later today 😃
