IzzyGrasp
Hey everyone! I added some of my best closes thus far in my signature and couldn’t help but think, “Wouldn’t it be unfortunate if I kept updating this but lost track of where I used to be?” So that is why I started this thread. I will be posting my PR’s as they happen here so that I can look back at it later! I might eventually attach some videos as well. Here are my PR’s as of the date of posting: MMS: COC #2.5 // 123 RGC (CPW) CCS: COC #2 // 103 RGC (CPW) TNS: Standard Au // 92 RGC (CPW) — — — — — — — — — — — — — Bench press: 232.5 lbs I don’t have any rated gripper between the 92 Standard Au and 103 COC #2, so it’s difficult to say exactly what I can handle with TNS for right now. But, that #2 CCS just happened and marks my very first successful CCS close for a #2! It feels like not too long ago I first closed the #2 with MMS. haha

Vinnie
Nice work, and keep it up! If I did such a list, I would be embarrassed to include my bench press lol. Mine isn't much more than my max MMS close ...

I just don’t really mess with it a whole lot.

I like building muscle and doing my workouts (not all of them lol) but there are two main strength-related numbers that I am truly passionate about my progress on, and those are grippers and bench press PRs.

When we rang in 2020 I was 50 years old, and I had never bench pressed as much as 200 (I weigh about 180 and have always been able to do about body weight). I decided I needed to bench 200 before I turned 51 that April. I had never worked out before (I had only even discovered grip when I was 47-ish), but I bought a cheap bench and pushed myself for a couple months. In April a little before I turned 51, I got 200 for one nice solid rep. Then I quit benching and went back to just grip! Made me feel good to do that though. It feels good to set goals and accomplish them! 200 was a very tough barrier for me. I did 195 in May but couldn’t put up 200 for another 2 months of consistent training. But in the 4 months from July to now I have improved by 32.5 lbs more, so things have sped up considerably.

That is nice progress! It makes me wonder whether I should push for a bit more also. 225 might be a nice goal. I'll think about it. I am much more interested in grip though. I'd really like to lift the Inch dumbbell, but I am pretty far from that so it may not be as realistic.

IzzyGrasp
Update: I had no grippers between 92 and 103 RGC, but I just got a 95 Grip Genie 3, bumping up my TNS to 95. I also got a COC #2.5 rated 126 to bridge the gap between my 123 I have closed and the 128 that I have yet to. Might get in a good attempt on that one soon! MMS: COC #2.5 // 123 RGC (CPW) CCS: COC #2 // 103 RGC (CPW) TNS: Grip Genie 3 // 95 RGC (CPW) — — — — — — — — — — — — — Bench press: 232.5 lbs

I mean, it all comes down to what you’re passionate about and what feels fulfilling I guess! I want to bench 300+ someday, so I’m working my way toward that goal. Like I said, I’ve never squatted or deadlifted very heavy compared to my bench, but it’s hard not to at least consider whether I might be interested in reaching for the 1,000 lb club someday.

Well I'm 54, so "someday" is not the open-ended field of possibilities it once seemed. Very little that I am not actively pursing this minute is likely to happen "someday"! If you are doing strength training regularly and taking care of your body well at 54 you are well ahead of the pack compared to most! I have a neighbor who is 75 and has stayed active his whole life, and the guy is in better health than most 50 yo people I know. I was headed down a very bad path with my health before I turned things around last year.
IzzyGrasp
I am resting up and hoping to go for a new PR close on Monday! Wish me luck! I would love to close my #2.5 rated 126 and I believe I have the potential to very soon. Honestly if I cannot, it would likely be that I’m not resting enough. lol In non-gripper related news, I did improve my bench press by 5 lbs today. I might be able to increase my “age” by a little bit next week too. (Wednesday is my birthday) LOL MMS: COC #2.5 // 123 RGC (CPW) CCS: COC #2 // 103 RGC (CPW) TNS: Grip Genie 3 // 95 RGC (CPW) Bench press: 237.5 lbs Age: 25 | Height: 6’1” | Weight: 202
IzzyGrasp
Here is my current collection of #2.5 grippers! Quite a large range there, huh? lol

IzzyGrasp
Like I suspected it might turn out, I’m definitely not PR ready today. haha I’ve actually only worked out using this many grippers just recently, so I’m definitely more fatigued than usual and it might take a little while to adapt. For the majority of my training I had very few grippers, so it was normal to have one I could barely even close once, and then I would drop and be able to do the next one for easy reps. lol I am really enjoying training with my large collection of grippers I have now! But I’ll certainly have to learn my limits, as well as how much rest I need. My performance wasn’t bad today by any means—I could still nearly close my RGC 126 #2.5, but I did feel a bit fatigued is all and not at my maximum strength.
IzzyGrasp
Yes, I obsessively bought grippers just recently and am building my collection rapidly. lol It has allowed me to train at my limits a lot more already.
Jared P
Keep it up, with consistency and time, the gains will come. I was pretty much exactly where you are, back in April/May. Had just closed the 122 CoC 2.5 for the first time, and could CCS my 100 CoC 2, and TNS my 91 Grip Genie 3. 6 months later now, and I'm 3mm away from closing my 143 CoC 3 (+21 rgc), and my CCS PR is 116 Grip Genie 4 (+16 RGC), and TNS is 112 HG 250 (+21 rgc).

I’m glad that I am finally keeping a journal of my progress, so that later I can look back.

I'd love to know what they measure as I find in interesting how grippers have differ.

I should learn.
