Squeezus
My understanding is that there isn't anyone in North America that rates steel at the moment. I would like to build a rig and rate some steel. I have looked for threads on how to build the apparatus, but I am apparently not searching properly. Is there anyone here that could direct me to some resources to help me get started with this? Thanks in advance. 2 Quote 2020 Goals: Red Nail 3/11/20 (bent under cert conditions, still waiting to be assigned judge for cert) Bastard 3/21/20, Golden Bastard 4/25/20 MM5 MM3 & MM4 Offhand

Both of them could give you good info. Also, talk to @acorn. I think Delmar may have had a rig at one point too. Message David Horne on Facebook too. Frank Pizzo
I believe Tim Tolbert has or had a fairly sophisticated rig for rating steel, not sure when the last time he was on the board was though. climber511
EJ Livesey did up a big batch for Gripmas one year - I know he had a rig of some kind as well. Did you have a 3x3 squat rack? Either way , in the next week or so I can post how I set it up and you can review and see if you think that would work for you.
acorn
I used a tall custom loading pin I made and an engine hoist with appropriate stainless cable and hardware. I went as high as 1000# with it. I loaned out the engine hoist years ago though and never got it back. 1 Quote ** Retired **
Squeezus
Thanks everyone! @acorn @KRC the main thing I need to know is the parameters of the strength test itself. I remember seeing a post years ago about where to clamp the nail and how many degrees bend it is supposed to have, etc. All of those details would be super helpful. acorn
From what I remember the permanent degree bend was 30deg. I believe the cable connections affixed to the bar were at 3/4" in from the ends of the tested length. Eric originally came up with the parameters as he was the first rating the steel. I worked with him directly to get setup as I was 2nd to rate steel and used his parameters. You may be able to find them if you search by his posts. 1 Quote ** Retired **
