Spring Depth In The Handle

I've done the search but to no avail, I was just wondering if anyone knew "roughly" how far the springs go into the "legs" of the gripper. And/or how they are set?

Could be anything from a 5/16" gap, to paper thin.

based on an article I read somewhere about making modified grippers, I was led to believe that the ends of the spring go into the handles about 1.75 inches or so (i.e. pretty far). I have never taken a gripper apart though so I don't know for sure. They are set with some sort of epoxy I believe; again not positive.

No doubt how deep the prongs of the spring go into the handles varies like everything else about grippers. Even though there are only 3 parts to a gripper, 1 spring and two handles with the handles being bored to accept the springs, somehow Ironmind manages to screw things up when it comes to consistentcy. There again this will sell more grippers. The only identical grippers I have are from PDA.

Tetting gripper springs are mounted quite deeply into the handles. Last weekend, I made my elite into an adjustable gripper and I drilled up to the spring post (about 1 1/2" from the bottom of the handle) Tom Black wrote about this in his article on how to make an adjustable gripper.

I don't know about ironmind grippers but you should be able to modify/cut them to suite your needs.

I cut an Ironmind #2 open a few weeks ago and the spring leg

extended 3/4 inch past the smooth ring of the handle.....

Why did I do this?? Just to see how it is made..... :whacked

I could not say if all IMs gripper spring legs are this long though.....

The spring appears to be secured with a 2 part clear epoxy
