PREACHERKERB
Got an idea at Home Depot yesterday. I spied an $11.00 fiberglass shaft that was made as a replacement handle for sledges. It has a narrow fiberglass extension shaft on the top that looked to be perfect to fit plastic weights on. When I got it home, I took a sander to the lower part of that shaft and slimmed it down, which has allowed me to slide plates further down on the shaft. Now I can put a one pound plate, a three pound plate, a six pound plate, an eight pound plate, or a twelve pound plate on it. One of my old spring collars for an old plastic dumbell set fits perfectly on the top, securing the load. Now, I have a cheap tool to give me variable resistance while levering. I know there are other ways of doing this, but this way seems especially cheap and very easy to do. Thought this may be useful to others working on levering. HAMMERHEAD
Good job! It's that type of innovation that allowed Joe Kinney to create the Secret Weapon, Warren Tetting the first heavy duty spring gripper, Richard Sorin's blob, Brookfields numerous training tools, PDA's Gripinator, Tommy's poop paper squeezer! , and many others. Have you checked out Tom Black's web site? He has a great article on adjustable sledgehammers. Adpwaler (I know I spelled it wrong) has a great web site about homemade equipment. -HH (The Poop Paper Squeezer does work well, and it funny too. Tommy is always thinking up cool stuff. His wrist roller is top notch.)
offroadbiker
Preacherkerb, Great idea! I went the ultra-cheap route on making a similar device - I cut down a tree in my yard, and there were 3 good straight branches each about 3 feet long. The diameter at the base varies between 1.5 to about 2.5 inches. So I just loop a chain through some plates, put the chain over the end of the branch, and lever away!!
