Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I'm looking for the best recorded crush/bw ratio gripper closes (Certification and/or video). Feel free to post vids here. From the gripboard Yori closed a #3 heavier than him (RGC) I believe. The #3 I did my MM0 is a few pounds lighter than me. I know Matt Cannon is the lightest mm1+ mash monster at 165lb and mm1 being ~156ish? I've also read somewhere the lightest guy to cert on the #3 (old rules) was 137lb at the time. The most impressive one I know of is Tommy Heslep when he certed on the #4 back in 2004. He told me he was 168lb! That's about 120%-130% of bw assuming the gripper was somewhere between 200-220lb RGC. Any input on this is appreciated! Edited January 27, 2016 by Evan Raftopoulos 1 Quote youtube channel, instagram
Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 27, 2016 Author Posted January 27, 2016 I was reading online "An anaconda snake can squeeze something the same as its own 250kg body weight to death." I thought wow this relevant to this post and got me thinking if anacondas would be able to squeeze grippers too I think that would be awesome to watch. Quote youtube channel, instagram
Cannon Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 My best fully documented close was at one of Adam's contests I closed a 158 gripper at 145 body weight. Parallel set, no block. I think I was 160BW when I did the MM1 and would personally ballpark the gripper at 158-159. My gripper PR is a 164# Elite which I closed at just under that body weight. I'll find some videos to post. 1 Quote
Cannon Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Here is the 158 close at 145 BW. It's the 2nd close on the video. Bad angle I know. Since it was in the scope of a contest I was only really trying to capture the moment. 1 Quote
Cannon Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Here is the 164 Elite close. Again, 2nd close on the video. Gripper was rated by Eric Milfeld. 2 Quote

Cannon Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I made an edit above. The 2nd close at Adam's contest was actually a 158 gripper at 145 BW. Quote
Cannon Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Teemu Ilvesniemi is pretty solid in this area too. For some reason I cannot get into his MM profile right now, my work has blocked the site, but generally I think he was in the 170s for body weight and most people agree the MM4 is mid-180s. He destroyed that gripper. Also, curiously, it seems like his youtube channel no longer has any videos 1 Quote
Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 yes, he also did one arm chin up on the rolling thunder, and I believe he is the heaviest one to achieve that and with perfect form. His channel is active last time I checked but it's not under his name. here it is https://www.youtube.com/user/19Kamau79/videos we are talking about the same guy, right? Chez Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) If I could mms close grippers RGCed at my body weight, I would be able to close BB pros and GHP 10s easily. I would also be able to cert the #4. Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 oops my bad, that guy's name is Timo not Teemu Quote youtube channel, instagram
Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 another way to test crush capacity that I'm planning on trying is load a gripper machine with wts and try to keep it shut with one hand only. Not sure how it correlates to gripper closes RGC (it's static) but I think it's easier, faster and safer to test max in pounds. I'm sure others have tried this before. KapMan Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'd be a be juggernaut if I could close a 290 RGC gripper. Quote
Evan Raftopoulos Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) does anyone know how much Gabriel Sum weights? He certified on the coc 3.5 and doesn't look like a heavy guy. Here he attempts one arm chin up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CyIuuoCs4M edit: it states here that he was 211lb back in 2009 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9J-cLu7wgk Edited January 28, 2016 by Evan Raftopoulos Quote youtube channel, instagram
