Wrap Around Axle

What are the thoughts about properly wrapping an axle. With my hand size i can touch my thumb over half of my middle fingernail, but I can't quite touch my thumb to index on a true 2" bar. When I pull I loosely touch my middle and thumb together. What approach do some of you guys take? For those with huge hands, do ya wrap thumb over index? For those who can't quite fully wrap, how do you position?

I don't think this has been discussed that I've seen.

Not something I have to worry about - I can't touch anything together - let alone overlap :). The one thing I have found is that putting my hands closer together on the bar sets my little fingers up better - a wider grip and I can't get much of anything out of my pinkies.

I think my Tips Tester does a pretty good job of getting the whole hand size thing out of the equation. So far anyway I think Andrew was the only one to do the 300# in the Medley. I have considered having it as an event at Gripmas next year actually.

My thumb touched my middle finger too, but as soon as I start the lift my thumb peels off the finger and curls onto the bar for the rest of the lift

For grip contests you can't over lap the fingers.

You can, you just can't hook grip.

My thumb can touch my middle finger tip but only when I totally strech out my fingers to the max. Practical there's a little gap between those fingers. I have the impression that I don't have any power when streching out the fingers to the max anyway - same thing for blobs btw.. I don't have any benefit by a narrow grip like Chris said and do a conventional lift which puts my hands in a natural position. Instead I try to wristcurl the barbell a tiny bit - at least at the start of the movement - and squeeze the hell out of it for sure!

So even for larger handed guys, the hand position of maximum tension/leverage/torque is with the thumb against the tip of the middle finger? Anyone experiment with the ring touching?

Also on a 1.9" bar I can get thumb to index but it doesn't seem to offer better positional leverage. I still prefer a thumb to tip of middle finger. To be honest there is very little advantage to pulling with the slightly thinner axle. Might be reason to say that having huge hands doesn't give much advantage on a 2" axle.

Anyone feel differently? Thanks for the feedback, I'm honestly very curious about what makes a good thickbar lifter.

I feel having bigger hands is an advantage on the 2" axle compared to having smaller hands.

I can pull roughly the same on a 2 inch rolling handle as I can on a frictionless 1.25 inch d handle that you'd find at a commercial gym. Once it gets over 2 inches it's just too much for my hands and I start losing strength at a moderate pace.
