Certification Gripper Ratings (Ccs #3's)

This came up in another thread.

I don't know if this information has been compiled in one place before...feel free to tell me.

Whomever has walked away from a CCS Cert. attempt (successful or no), if you have had that #3 rated, would you share...

Year, Rater, RGC, (Gripster)

The majority of grippers have been rated by Jedd, Chris, Eric and Matt (CPW).

While you are welcome to add a RGC rating outside of those, it'll probably mean more to compare apples to apples.

Seeing how there is less than 100 (successful) certs since the CCS came into play (and not all are on the GB, or active, or had it rated)...this probably won't be statistically significant. I think we'd be super lucky to get 20 names.

Maybe we will learn something...maybe not. Thanks for participating.

I'll start it off.

2014, CPW, 149, (Nathaniel Brous)

Note: Matt immediately rated it at 153. After oiling it and closing it 30 (?) times, it rated 149.

I rated Adam Glass' CCS cert gripper shortly after his cert and it was 155. That was with no oil and no reps other than cert attempts so not great data in my opinion but we were interested in "what it was like out of the package".

In general, the more data we can get, I would just expect the number to move closer and closer to average of rated #3s by any specifiic person.

Not sure if Jared repped it out before he rated it. I also rated it and came out with 150. It currently resides in a frame on my wall.

2020 Goals:

I can only guess what my #3 came out to. But I'm assuming it would be about 153-155 lb, that's excluding oil being used and reps.

The only person who can inform us of the rating is Mighty Joe since I sent him my certification #3 to be in his Grip Museum.

Awesome thread to bring back up Nate!

Another question I was wondering too was what people were closing right before the cert that let them know they were ready.?.?

I was getting close to CCSing my 166 HG350 when I certed. My #3's rated around 150 were no problem to CCS pretty much any time of day.

I would have to look back at my log to see what I was closing right before my certification. I know I was doing multiple #3 CCS singles in each workout though. Just don't remember how many and with what gripper. My MMS was well above #3 level so I just focused on CCS closes leading up the cert to make sure that cert width felt automatic so I didn't fumble the set come cert day.

Heh. Watch these two cert videos. First is from the man who certified on the MM7 long time later, but in that period he repped his #3 ccs in training.

Second is also a strong guy, but something tells me there is some difference in those grippers. Btw it's two guys certing in that vid, both repping it ccs. Not taking anything away from their certs, these guys rock, just watch their training vids.

On topic, Vano wrote to me that he had a gripper with very big width and it came out around 159 lbs when he had it rated. Of course, rating systems vary also, but it shows he had a tough gripper. I think he was well prepared for his cert, so I would rule him out being not enough recovered or something like that.
