What do you think is the most prestigious event in grip? That is, which event is the most impressive one to hold a world record?

Major Grip Titles Won: 8x Canadian Nationals; 6x Visegrip Viking; 3x APL Worlds; 3x Armlifting Worlds; 3x North Americans; 2x Arnolds; 2x Armlifting World Super Series; 2x Cross-Canada; 1x King Kong; 1x Shaw Classic

If your are talking purely contest, I have no idea. However, I am convinced that wide hand pinch , such as block weights, strengthen the whole overall hand more than any other exercise.

Either Grippers or One Hand Block (provided size is at least 1.5 inches). Haven't decided.

Euro 2HP. Even though it's my weakest discipline (by far), to me it's inherently and obviously the most fair of the bunch. Handsize is much less of a factor than with grippers or axle. Additionally when the Axle gets up in weight, it's much more of a full body test than one of grip. Holding an Axle from a dropping rack pull setup would test the grip more than the current Axle lifts. ...says me. :)

Submission handshake. Always thought that should be an event.

Went with grippers since it probably impresses the average person the most, and the average person thinks crushing grip is "grip strength".

The general public doesn’t have a clue about any of the events we do.

Grip Board new guys all seem to be obsessed with grippers when they start out.

Those who compete regularly seem to favor the Euro.

Bigger or bigger handed Strongman types seem to be into the Axle.

Myself I think the guys that do best in the monster Medleys that have some of everything in them have the most well rounded all over strongest grips and usually are among the strongest in each individual lift as well.

For those who chose something else, can y'all mention what the event is?

Rolling handles and fat handle dumbbells.

I think it's a better test of grip than the axle because of the reason anwnate mentioned.

Deadlifting 100 kg with a rolling handle isn't very difficult for the back but very difficult for the grip. Deadlifting 200 kg or more with the axle can also be very difficult for the back and legs not just for the grip.

John - I had something like the Gripmas Medley from this year in mind - all around world class tests in every area of grip strength.

it's difficult for me to decide on "the most impressive" at this point. I think for the general public grippers (especially TNS/full rom) is very impressive because it's sooo easy to test for yourself and realize the strength it takes to close a heavy gripper. I have a CoC3 on my wall at work and people test it all the time just because. If I had a euro device I don't think that the average person would figure out what to do with it or care about it. However, the thumb which is key in overall grip strength is not as relevant with grippers as with 2HP. Also I find heavy lifts on revolving handles and wide pinch impressive . Just hard for me to decide on just one.

While they can be synonymous...I assumed Eric meant more of the "worthy of respect or admiration" prestigious than the "awe-inspiring" of impressive.

But he can expound if he likes.

I'm sure watching Mike Burke throwing down a 500+lb Axle weight live appears more impressive than a #4 close.

You're right, Nate. "Worthy of respect or admiration" is what I had in mind.

I'm leaning towards the two-hand pinch, myself.

I personally find steel bending to be most impressive. The old BB lists were pretty damn prestigoius for those in that community.

Current Goal: MM0

thanks Nate, those two sound the same to me. There is not much objectivity to the answer of this question but for the general public I say grippers is the most impressive because it's easier to appreciate the strength it takes to close a heavy gripper vs any of the lifts mentioned above. For me at this point in time perhaps 2hp. But it's all relative, if a guy closes TNS a number 4 (which hasn't happened yet as far as I know) I'd be more impressed than with someone breaking the 2hp WR by let's say couple pounds.

btw is steel bending considered a grip event? I always thought it was kind of its own thing.

Farmers Walks would be my vote, followed by DO Axle

I would have chosen the rotating deadlift handle if it was in the list, so I choose DO Axel.

Hercules / farmer holds is a close second.

That is, which event is the most impressive one to hold a world record?

I chose grippers just because the 'world record' for me would be a #4 cert with a credit card set and that hasn't fallen yet.

I would like to add that I'm not much of a gripper guy at all. Personally I like Thickbar and pinch events best.

More to open a dialogue than argue...couldn't the same logic be applied to the other events? No one has pinched 300 on the euro or DO lifted 600 on an axle.

The fact that a company created a challenge seems an arbitrary way to judge events.

Even after someone certs the #4 or someone euro pinches 300...there will always be the GHP10 Cert and 325 euro goal.

I agree with these as far as thick bar events are concerned.

I think melodies and odd object lifting is impressive to me. Like Jedd's ridiculous gripmas melody take over. I had to take a cold shower ;) Plus i find blobbing, anvil and odd shape lifting to just be fun to watch. I'm a thick bar guy myself and find that to be impressive in the higher weights as well. But I feel odd objects test the hand in a variety of ways, though admittedly my experience is limited.

David Horne's adjustable thick bar.

Very good species for all competitions.

150kg is the limit for almost all lifters, belive me.

I love it but I really wish it was more popular in grip contests in the US.

with grippers parallel set MM8+ will also be super impressive, but there is not much competition for that right now, only one guy trying for it. Also if anyone ever breaks the ghp 9 challenge record of Nathan Holle.

Does anyone know the heaviest recorded gripper close MMS in RGC as of today?
