I would like to continue to see the "ladder" approach with this additional feat and all future feats because it allows the most amount of people in the community to participate and be recognized.

For example, people can be recognized for 2x35 pinch, not just 2x45 and so on.

I agree. Not many people doing 50 lb blob curls.

I voted Just 50's.

While I agree that the 50's is the "Major League," I think we need to invest some time/interest in the Minor's also.

I vote for the ladder approach.

It needs to remain 50. Having a bazillion lists that new guys can get their names on almost overnight pretty much undermines what it means to get in the hall of fame. Having too many lists with too many asterisks will water down what was intended to be a short list of people who can do recognizable world class feats. For instance, I don't think there should be lists for less than the "world class standard" like 2-45s, 50lb blob, etc.

I know there many guys who are working hard, myself included, who would like to be recognized for their progress.... BUT what keeps me motivated is to be named on the same feats lists as all the greats, not having my name on a bunch of minor league feats. One thing I know is that it takes time. Its gonna take some guys more than others. The top guys didn't get to this level overnight... its taken most of them each the better part of a decade at least to get this strong. For anyone who has excuses about why they CANT get to the top level, ask Bob Sundin how much he weighs, how old he was when he started, how big his hands are etc... NO excuses.

I understand what jvance is saying...I guess we just see the lists and the purpose for them differently. I thought the purpose of the lists was to "work up the list" through your hard work. I mean...it's a list on a thread on a message board. We're not curing cancer here, we're picking things up with our hands.

Yep - this is pretty much how I feel. There should be some lists (or certs) or whatever that everyone cannot get on - and I guess I don't think we should water them down to the point they become meaningless in all the clutter of internet - you tube - and World Records(WTH) set in training. I'll never be on this one I am sure - but that's OK - having a carrot to chase to what it's about.

I see thing very differently. Me spending two weeks working with a blob to lift it...isn't much if a feat. Darrin Shallman working on and lifting it was quite a feat. Chez closing a #3 in two weeks wasn't much of a feat(though working and getting the #4 was big guy)...but Yori working his butt off to get his mm0 was a feat. II look at the journey and success. I consider my #3.5 close a feat...because I had to work for it...not because I made the list. I guess I'm saying that a "minor" feat isn't always minor and a meaningless feat isn't always meaningless.

Since this is not said nearly enough...let me start by saying that I recognize the tremendous behind the scenes effort undertaken by the creators and moderators of this board and I sincerely appreciate all their efforts because it's the only reason I found grip in the first place and made the friends that I have by being here....so the following is just me trying to throw out ideas for discussion....not criticizing the way things are done here, because this board is awesome :)

About the The Blob Cycle feat....I actually thought that the original purpose of the traveling blob idea that Nate came up with was meant to be similar to the Mash Monster process....request the blob you want and make your attempts on camera...I thought that would be cool...everybody lifts the same blob. But I digress...

That particular feat aside...maybe there's a way to accommodate everyone's concerns and wishes about lists/recognition/community involvement, etc.? Just throwing this out there, but maybe there can be something like a "community list" (similar to what already exists) for the overwhelming majority of gripsters to measure themselves and be recognized in some way by the community at large....and then something like a "hall of fame" or "world class feats" list that is wholly more exclusive, maybe even requires a higher degree of scrutiny, more prominently displayed/advertised and maybe includes pics and bios of the athletes, similar to having achieved the MM1 and above?

OR...maybe the community feats list just needs to be culled a bit by setting certain minimum standards as to not become meaningless and cluttered....or creating more of a "top ten" list or something....just throwing out my unsolicited two cents...

The Blob cycle would make a good challenge thread where all different blobs could be allowed. Allowing different sizes/weights promotes inclusion. Not everything needs a list of records. Much like a farmer's walk or a hold for time, the Blob cycle shows mastery of an implement rather that a feat of strength in and of itself.

I think part of the goal of the grip board is to promote the world of grip and build community. You should that by being somewhat inclusive.

What's wrong with having three list for the blob cycle? They could be 40lbs, 45lbs, and 50lbs+.
