Setting Grippers In Left Hand

Recommended Posts

Both my hands are on par with extended handle negatives, hand dynamometer results are with 1-2 lbs, but I just can't close the same grippers left handed. I end up pulling the finger side handle more towards the palm, so range of motion is about the same or possibly more, but the handles just don't touch. Any tips (other than to get some left wound springs :glare: ) ?

Every once in awhile I get a lucky set and a good close out of nowhere, but I can't figure out what I did differently. Really frustrating! I have been just not worrying about it and closing as far as possible, but I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. My left wrist is actually stronger with sledge levering, hub and block weights are about the same both hands. Maybe I can just set better on one side, but I think there's more to it. Gah...

Practice. That's it.

Thanks, I was afraid of that... TNS there isn't a big difference, so it must be something with the way I am setting. I'll just have to pay attention every time and hope to catch enough good closes to figure it out.

Yes practice, practice and practice more. Just do a lot of setting and closes with the left. I had the same problem when I started with grippers, then I injured my right hand and could only use the left. During that period my setting with left actually surpassed the right.

I feel like I get stronger sets on left hand closes because my right hand is stronger. Stronger closes with my right hand.

Same here but for me it's not only about the hand it's about the whole upper body right side. My left side is much weaker, all the way down to the legs then suddently my left leg gets the advantage :laugh

One thing I've been experimenting with is the angle that I set the gripper with on my left hand. I seem to get much better closes lefty when I set the gripper from a more perpendicular angle...rather than the normal horizontal set. It seems to negate some of the spring tendency. It's not a very natural motion...but it does make a difference.

Practiced a bit, right handed closes I can set the handle up against fingers and it's fine. Left handed closes work better if I set it an inch or so away from my fingers (pull handle towards me) and then pull my fingers forward to the handle before wrapping around.
