Evan Raftopoulos
I 've been thinking about this lately. I was at the gym yesterday and tried to mimic the hand mechanics when using a grip machine (such as the titan hand grip on amazon) using a hammer strength deadlift/shrug machine (See pictures). It felt pretty good, the main difference is the absence of second/stabilizing bar for the thumb and palm. I'm not sure how much of a difference that stabilizing bar makes. The positive aspect of the absence of the second bar is that there is no contact pressure on the palm. A con is that it is easy to compensate by shrugging your shoulders as you use more and more wt. Has anybody else tried this before for help with closing grippers?
Evan Raftopoulos
this just occurred to me: how about securing a regular gripper (an easy one under 100#) perhaps with tape on top of the hammer strength bar, so that the machine becomes an extension of the gripper? Just thinking aloud here. Edited April 20, 2015 by Evan Raftopoulos
Evan Raftopoulos
i know one could say why not just use grippers, but I'm trying to add variability to my gripper training routine and I 'm also interested in finding ways to train the same muscles while minimizing contact pressure in the palm, or at least change the force parameters a bit to reduce repetitive stress in the hand tissues. Evan Raftopoulos
Finger Curls which setup do you recommend? the hammer strength machine seems to get as close to the grip machines as possible. Now that I'm thinking about it, my gym has high parallettes (Lebert Equalizers) that I can place on top of the hammer machine handles. That should make it identical to the grip machines out there. Or perhaps I should ask the gym owner to get one, lol.
Evan Raftopoulos
http://www.reddit.com/r/GripTraining/comments/2q3rsv/adamantium_the_bodyweight_grip_strength_program/ thanks, I actually do a lot of similar finger strengthening exercises with bouldering and training home with a hangboard. Evan Raftopoulos
I came up with a few different ways to practice this at work today using the cable machine. This was one of my favorites:

Evan Raftopoulos
Apparently there is a gripper machine 5 feet from the deadlift/shrug machine that I haven't noticed till today. I'm new to this gym but still can't believe that I missed it. I felt like a kid in Disneyland trying it out. I did like 15 sets.
