David_wigren
The 15kg plate is easy money for me now but the 20kg plate is still not happening , at least not with the straight wrist style. I think I need to work on adding weight instead of adding reps in order to improve my max strength.
JoshW
The 20kg's are alot bigger, so the added length makes it harder right? What about working with 2x10kg plates? Very strict and strong.
Frank Pizzo
Wow David, crazy impressive! Your form looked awesome. You and Luke should have a plate curl-off...you both have some amazingly strong wrists!

Very strict and strong. Thank you Josh! I have done two 10kg plates in the past and I use them now and then when I do two-handed plate wrist curls. But I don't like them that much for one handed plate curls. The extra width makes it almost impossible not to lift them with a bent wrist. If you look at pretty much everyone(myself included) curling a blob or two 10kg's or two 25's their wrists bends back. This makes it a different beast that I don't think translates 100% over to the straight wrist curl. But then again, any lift that strengthens the wrist and the flexors should help. David_wigren
This is such an ego lift lol. At my gym I've seen a few guys close a #3 and one guy lift close to 100kg on the RT with little to no training on the handle. But I've yet to find someone who can strict curl a 15kg plate. It's nice to be good at something in a house of monsters lol.
Old Dax
David, here's a suggestion: Take a pony clamp and use it to fasten a 1.25kg (or a smaller one if you have it) disc to the edge of your 15kg (opposite your grip) this should increase the difficulty (due to leverage, because of the distance the added weight is away from your grip) but the dimension where you're holding will remain the same. You might find it too heavy so you could try adding 2 x 1.25kg discs using pony clamps but just either side of your hand (i.e. much less leverage, as you then progress move the discs further away towards the opposite edge to the one you're gripping) might work? Thats a Great idea mate. i was talking to David the other day and mentioned either ducktaping smaller weights to the top of the plan, or getting a small loading fixed on. your idea is much better. less hassle and more practical. thanks for mentioning this. ill be using this method when i get back to it.
MarcoBuhl
these are some great curls David! Have you tried negatives with 20Kg plate? I'm not a friend of negatives but at plate curls this helped me a lot.

Huh, I've actually never thought of using the clamps to attach the weights. How did I not think of that, it's so simple! I've used a pipe through the middle and added weights that way, but never really liked it that much since it was such a hassle and the weights along with the pipe gets in your face while you curl it. Using a clamp or two clamps like you say is probably gonna work alot better. Thank you for the idea! This is such an ego lift lol. Alot of serious weights gets thrown around on a regular basis! Do you train there sometimes or do you exclusively train in your private gym? these are some great curls David! Have you tried negatives with 20Kg plate? I'm not a friend of negatives but at plate curls this helped me a lot. Yes. Well, kind of. From time to time I'll cheat curl a 20kg plate and then do a strict negative as it comes down. Hasn't worked any wonders for me unfortunately but thanks for the idea anyhow. Someone reading this might give it a try and have it work for them. Edited February 4, 2015 by David_wigren

David_wigren
David: I had some good time there but I am rarely there. My favorite gym in Örebro anyhow. Except my own! It's very good but it's beginning to get a bit to crowded. I mostly go there during the evening when it isn't so packed. I miss the times when it was just an armpit basement gym with just a few gritty PL-guys working out. Now everyone and their mom is working out there!
