Jose Cabrera Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Hi guys. I want to ask everyone here, have you broken or torn anything in your hand, if so, how was your recovery? What movements did you do, which ones did you avoid? How long till you where back to normal or close to it? Did certain foods help? Thank you in advance. 1 Quote
Jones1874 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Ive broke a few bones in my hand. thumb, finger, wrist and metacarpal. i done these years ago in my early teens so i cant remember exactly. i think its around 4-6 weeks for a fracture. not sure how long it took my thumb to heal, probably a few weeks more because it was a clean snap. rest is all i done back then. eating well and exercise can only help, even if it shaves off a few days. get the milk down you. someone else will have to chime in as far as doing contrast hand baths, soaking in warm water, anti inflammatorys etc. Quote (YouTube channel coming soon!) Frank Pizzo Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I've broken my middle finger and my 5th metacarpal but unfortunately I don't have any good advice other than plenty of rest for the injured hand. Of course I didn't heed that advice after the metacarpal break and just prolonged my recovery. I wish you luck while you convalesce. And sorry I couldn't be more help man. svr Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I am not sure how much help this will be.Hopefully what you have going on won’t require surgery. I have had a couple broken finger bones, several probable breaks (never went to a doctor) and one finger that had to be put back together with screws and pins. So from memory I would say my back to normal time was six weeks to eight months. There is a big difference in how long for a bone break vs. connective tissue. For range of motion issues and breaking up of scar tissue - a paraffin wax bath until hands are super heated and then finger forced into proper position, tendons and tissues rubbed and stretched worked for me. Best when combined with Guinness therapy. For the big break I did not do a damn thing until the doctor looked at a follow up x-ray and said the bone was healed enough to handle pressure. One of my few intelligent decisions.I also seem to heal better in general with heat and blood flow than cold or contrast. Good Luck. 1 Quote svr (Sean) "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." — Theodore Roosevelt
Jose Cabrera Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Wow, thanks for the advice Sean. Much appreciated brother. Quote

Glad it healed good, ima take it one baby step at a time once im cleared by the Doc, thanks for the tip Thanks mate. hands are all good, thankfully. i gave them plenty of rest, and back then i werent doing weights or anything grip related to irritate them. i wouldnt go back to grip too soon, id give it about 2 weeks after you think its healed just to be certain. easier said than done.. better to rest now for full recovery. ease back into it and then youll be smashing it in no time. you can always use one hand to give you some focus. or work on the hand extensors. light movements with a rice bucket will get the blood flowing, nothing too strenuous though. be patient. hope you heal up soon! I also seem to heal better in general with heat and blood flow than cold or contrast. This ^ for me anyway. 1 Quote (YouTube channel coming soon!) EJ Livesey Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 I've had many many injuries. The last injuries were fractures up and down both hands, twisted/hyper-extended tendons, ripped come give tissue and deep bone bruises. I had to take a little over a year off. That was a dark time for me. I have to be honest, I was a mess mentally. But once I got the green light, I was ready to bend. Just make sure your mind is ready. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. It took me a couple months to get my mental edge back. Once I did, steel just started to fold. But you are only taking a few weeks off, correct? This will impact you little to none. You won't even notice. 1 Quote Junior steel bender in training The only limits are the ones YOU set. De-feat-ist (noun)Somebody who accepts failure as a matter of course 6'3" 258lbs of pure man
