David Horne Pickaxe - Front Lever - 13.8lbs (6.27kg)

So I wasn't going to post this due to having this event in the next competition in Feb but I can't not share this with the grip world. Some of you are aware that I have the Sledge choke WR and most people have gone away from the Sledge choke event due to some issues which were brought up following NAGS 2014; so when Ivan Beritashvili sent Jedd a pickaxe I was excited to prove it wasn't a fluke. So here is the video of me performing this lift at 1.24kg (2.73lbs) above the current WR. The pickaxe is different as it doesn't allow the tilt which the sledge does but at the same time the chance of it falling off a side due to wrist torque is much more likely than falling off the front for me. Here is the video...ENJOY!!

Wow man that looks awesome.

So I'm unfamiliar with the pickaxe stuff, care to sure what its made of and what makes a good lift?

Go on David Hornes World of Grip.....I believe it describes how to make one! I would say anything over 9-10 lbs total would be a good lift! It is fairly comparable to a sledge choke but a little more strict! So it is comparable to a sledge which you can keep fairly level! This requires a 30" height to lift to versus 18" with the sledge choke!

Always new unseen feats to see on here. Cool nice work Lucas.

This is just outworld joint rigidity.

I guess 90% people just don't imagine how HUGE the bonebreaking torque is here. Hell, this weight may break the wrist even on REAR lift!!

Lucas, off the charts. Huge congratulations. Trully I never thought I would see such kind of things EVER.

I honestly agree with you Ivan as the amount of torque on this and the sledge choke is insane...to the point that my wrist is usually sore for 5-7 days following training it so I don't like to do it more than 1x/2 weeks at most. Thanks again for the pickaxe man!!!

Thanks man!

I see another WR in your future Lucas ! Good job man !!

I hope you are correct, it all depends on how my wrist is feeling because today it is still sore from saturday!! Thanks!!

Awesome lift luke!! You made it look easy.

Thanks Jake!!

That was crazy!

I think you may very well be Slim Jr. Just sayin'

That is a great compliment but I have a long way to go to get anywhere near Slim!

Strong work Luke! :o

Robert honestly I think you would be right there with me on this lift as you are able to keep at 12# sledge mostly strict so I don't see why you couldn't do this much weight on this lift...your wrists are definitely strong brother!! Do your carpals/metacarpals and ligaments get really sore following multiple heavy sledge choke lifts?

I call shenanigans. Gravity was clearly broke during that lift! ;)

Super strong lift Lucas! My wrists hurt just thinking about trying those weights

Thanks for the kind words Luke... still mad over you breaking my WR man!! Jk ;)

I do get sore as well but I believe bending keeps my wrist kinda thrown-down as well. If I get back into heavy-heavy levers such as this, I have to layoff bending in order to recover... of course I'm an old man compared to you!

Agian- Beastly freaking wrist strength Luke & congrats my friend. I want to start training for the pickaxe lift as I want to compete in the WSH this year.. how does it compare to the sledgehammer?

The major difference between the pickaxe and the sledge is the handle size, primarily top to bottom height of the handle is a 1/4" taller which does not allow as good of a cinch on the handle so it is slightly harder and the height which it needs to be lifted to (30'' vs 18") makes a huge difference. I could never get the 14# sledge choke anywhere near 30" (20-24" may be the most I could get it to). You will do very well Robert...keep training and stay strong!!

Great job Luke! That's some freaky wrist strength you have there. :) Btw, what size is the ball that has to be used? I'm going to build one of these suckers.

Bend some more stuff!

He didn't tell the ball size, but I think that I can take a pretty good guess. Thanks

Thanks for the kind words Luke.. bending steel is my priority at the moment but I still train grip.

I'm hearing the WSH event will be pickaxe lever to the rear actually? I haven't trained those at all but my OH levers are pretty good.. I better get training!
