Jeremy C.
It seems like my thumb strength is the limiting factor in my grip. It's most noticeable in 2hp and thick bar lifts. What have you guys found to be the best way to strengthen your thumb? Edited January 14, 2014 by Jeremy C.

Cannon
You gotta go Diesel Crew when we're talking thumb strength. There are tons of articles there.http://www.dieselcrew.com/tag/thumb-strength
barbe705
i think thumb can be the limiting factor in both of those lifts. however, I think that they use the thumb in such different ways that improving one might not have much carry over to the other. I also think that there are a lot of things you can do to improve the way your thumb strength is applied that would allow you to move bigger weights with the same thumb strength. there's a thread in the training logs about 2hp hand placement and a number of other threads along those lines. I'd read them all, and the dieselcrew stuff matt linked to. try to work the aspects taht aren't thumb related at the same time you bring your thumb strength up.
Guest Squat More
Pinch carries over to thickbar. I got a 20# pr on an axle deadlift yesterday and I'd not touched an axle for 6 months. All I have done for grip over the last two months has been pinch.
jvance
Thickbar makes use of a strong thumb, but if you have weak wrists and fingertips, a strong thumb won't do much for you. Pure pinch is pure thumb strength - without tilt
Jeremy C.
Thanks for the articles and the info. Sounds like I need to spend more time on thick bar and pinching
JamesG
My thumb never gets sore from axle work. My forearm flexors always get beat up. Not sure what that means exactly. lol
