Saw this posted on /r/griptraining. I've never seen this exercise but it looks intense.

I'm curious, do you think this is a good way to actually increase deadlift grip strength or is it more just a strength feat?

Ben is a 205lb and under drug free 740+ sumo puller so it obviously works for him since I have never known him to have grip problems in the deadlift (that I can remember and I am subscribed to his youtube).

I hope to have a deadlift one day that requires me to have to worry about my grip.

I have actually never seen anyone do this before, but it looks pretty cool. It makes sense also. I subscribe to Ben's youtube channel. He is ridiculously strong.

I've never seen this either. Can you imagine with an axle? I feel like this would certainly FRY your support grip in a great way.

My biggest problem would be I could not stay bent over like that in order to do it. Would send my disc into orbit.

I'm going to try these. something I got away from that helped my pinch a lot was around the worlds with 2x45. this is really the first way I've seen to train thick bar dynamically.

Dynamic eccentrics is the term Andrew and I came up for this - with more in relation to Kettlebell work but this is the same principle. This is something Andrew and I have discussed frequently. It's that split second huge overload when you catch that I think is the secret. It's actually harder with a very free spinning Olympic bar than an axle - the axle doesn't react as quickly at that instant of the catch as my Eleiko bar for example but its still brutal - just in a different way. I have used this idea a lot on my grip machine and when doing "catches" for years and it seems to have helped.

Climber511 is this something that you think would help with Axle strength? I really want to bring up my axle deadlift strength. thanks

Block weights tosses - KB snatch - Axle cleans - all these use this principle. It's an easier exercise to do with a dumbbell but DB rowing is one of the easiest ways to use this idea - its the "catch" or reverse at the bottom that is the key part. I have never used an Axle except for a few times experimenting - I think I would do an explosive shrugging type movement if I used an Axle. Personally I have a back issue that doesn't really like unsupported bent over positions like what is shown here. But there's little doubt the idea works well. It's not the movement so much as the way you perform it with that hard quick overload at the bottom position. Lots of people do this sort of unknowingly I think.

Oh that looks like fun! I've done the hand to hand tosses with the 1H Axle and Hub plate, gonna have to try this now.

Bringing back old thread, I tried his last nigh after deadlifting. Did a few reps with 135 and 155. Missed the bar on two occasions due to not bein used to the move, catching slight bruise on the hand, eventually got into groove, I can tell that this move is tough on a skin.
