If you remember, I challenged Daniel Reinard to this feat last year some time. I was able to get them to lockout for the first time yesterday.

Thanks to Richard Sorin for the inspiration. As far as I know, only he and Chad Woodall have accomplished this feat.

Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving!

All the hair on my arm stood up with the excitement as I saw a feat of pinch deadlifting York Deep Dish 45 lb plates only done over the past 60 years about 3 times. Jedd is in great shape and never backs off from high intensity training and competing. A huge benchmark reached by a true Wizard of Pinch!

This feat was tried by every great lifter visiting York and was shown moved off the floor a few inches in the original Mighty Mitts grip article in 1965 by Dr. Terry Todd. The man shown budging them loose was a strong handed lifter from Austin named Jack Fritch.

My most hearty congratulations to Jedd!!!!!!

A little noticed fact that is the key to how hard it is to deadlift the York Deep dish 45s is threefold. The overall thickness of each is 2"( 50mm) so 4"( or 100 mm )must be handled, the plates were cast and not machined on the edges where they would contact each other allowing very minimal direct metal contact( they slip apart easily), lastly the rim edge of each plate is cast in a rounded fingertip shaped fashion ( like the end of your little finger) giving even less chance for solid contact.. Throw in most were made overweight you will have a truly daunting task. "The key "like in the York Blob is the unique shape to be overcome not the weight or general measurement.

Thanks so much, Richard.

Cant wait to get a pair and be the 3rd man to lift them, Unless someone beats me to it

My lift 84-85mm and 41.4kg.. I don't think they will be to much of a problem for me, It will be more of a problem trying to find a pair to lift.

I actually thought I was the 3rd, BUT I found out today from Pat Povilaitis that Ron Mazza lifted two Old School Yorks some time ago. I was not aware of this.

It would be hard but I think I could lift them, Maybe not with both hands but surely with my right hand. I lifted 3 x 10kg plates with 2 fingers and thumb the second time I tried them at over 100mm width, And have gotten a little stronger since then. I seem to be good at wide pinch. If someone has a pair in the UK that they want lifting let me know. :D

Man 4 inches wide and everything richard mentions make this lift even crazier to me. The little over 3in wide or so 45 plates I have feel impossible to lift I can't even negative them so this is really mind blowing lift to me.

What is next for you to pinch lift that you would like too get? I remember daniel was trying to lift the 60# Hex, have you done that lift also?

Good stuff though keep it up you have been hitting huge lifts recently in everything. Leaner and stronger, motivating stuff.
